Should college football cancelled due to Covid?

Just for perspective, there were at least 98 college football player deaths from 2010-2019. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_football_players_who_died_during_their_careers

A study reported by CBS Sports says 3-7 football players will die this year due to Covid. This is based on 13,000 players, a 30%-50% infection rate, and the CDC estimate of 1 death per 1,000 college age persons who have Covid symptoms (not just positive test results).

No specific estimate in this article on the number of regular, non-athlete college students who will die from Covid this school year if they attend in-person classes.

30%-50 % infection rate ? Where do they pull this crap from ?

LOL at anything the CDC says as being remotely true or factual .

So everything from the CDC is part of a conspiracy??? :Face with Tears of Joy

While I am not sure the infection rate will be that high, if someone on the team does get it, and is not tested soon enough, you could see a cluster of cases. For 85 people, 30% equals to just 24. Seems high maybe... but not crazy.

the 30-50% infection rate is pulled out of thin air and stands apart from any known statistical data. The CDC hasn't suggested a 30-50% infection rate. Greater than 92% of all tests are negative.

The CDC do report a death rate of approximately 0.15% for people aged 15-24, high school and college age, which is 1.5 per 1,000. 1 per 1,000 might be a slight underestimation. There are however a significant number of incidences in this age demographic for COVID related deaths where the person died with COVID but the significant cause of death was an accident, cancer, gunshot, etc. The number of cases in this age demographic is relatively so small that they could be isolated and studied to determine how many, or few were solely due to COVID.

edit:
just to add to the ridiculousness of the 30-50% claim, in Florida there has been 90,329 positive tests returned for the 15-24 demographic from more than 4.4 million tests taken overall. approximately 2%.
