Any Vegas 'Noles here with insight on areas to live? Also, my wife will be a teacher/administrator, so any areas to avoid? This has come up again suddenly, so any insight would REALLY be appreciated.

Thanks!!

I thought you were a pretend mega-gazillionaire financial advisor? Do I have you confused with someone else? As I recall, you pretended to have literally hundreds of millions of AUM.

I don't know anyone that could/would be able to keep their clients and just up and move. People want to be able to see their financial advisor face to face a couple of times per year, at a minimum, especially if they are as high net worth as you pretended to be working with.

This doesn't fit your narrative. What gives, Bud? Did you forget the stories you've told here in the past?

Lol! Interesting.

Really? I don't know you Les, but there are a large number of people here that know me. Not that it is any of your concern, but my business is a large part of this possible move. Thanks for the helpful post though, I appreciate the love

I recently moved here and NolandDawg lives here too. Depending on where youight work there are a few good places to live. Look in Summerlin on the northwest side, Mountains edge and Southern Highlands on the southwest and Anthem on the southeast. Avoid pretty much anything on the north side.

Do you know where you will be working?

If we end up moving to Vegas, we will probably rent somewhere close to whatever school my wife ends up at, and I will find space to set up shop close to the house. Just wanted some ideas as to where she should look to work as far as top areas for schools. We have 10 year old twin boys, so a good athletics environment would be good. Also, I am an instructor at Frontsight in Pahrump, but that is a straight run out on the Blue Diamond. How do you like it out there so far BTW?

I like it pretty well. I live in Mountains edge, just off Blue Diamond Rd and like the area a lot. The summer heat makes it difficult to do the outdoor activities we like. We don't go to the strip much, just when we have guests that want to see that part.

Our kids are grown, so I can't give you much info on schools or athletic programs, but I can tell you there is a huge rental market here. We decided to rent until we found out more about the area. Look at Zillow or some other website for rentals in your price range and to get a look at the areas.

Sorry I don't have more info but we've only been here since February ourselves.

Thanks for the insight guys, I will definitely take it under advisement as we consider this opportunity.

I don't live in Vegas (visit a time or two a year), but do follow college athletics and recruiting. Findlay Prep is a hotbed for college recruiting, basketball in particular, though it probably is a bit down the road in terms of schooling WRT your kids.

I live in Vegas, in a subdivision called silver stone ranch. It's in the northern part of town close to the 215/95. Great location and very quiet. There are a lot of horse farms surrounding the area. The Sumerlin area is nice also.

We own several homes in Silverstone Ranch and we live on some horse property near there. It is a nice area and we like it. The best areas of town are the Sunmerlin area, certain parts of Henderson near Lake Las Vegas and Anthem and in the Northwest. If you really want to get away from town there are lots of nice houses up on Mt. Charleston where you can beat the summer heat. My. Charleston is also pretty convenient for taking the back way into Pahrump and there are some convenient areas out in the desert to go shooting as well. If you have any specific questions you can drop me a line at jdworin@mac.com. If you'd like someone to go shooting with just drop me a line. My form IV MG should clear sometime around the end of summer.

Thanks Nole&Dawg, I really appreciate the info. I am going out of town until next week, but I will definitely be in touch if this thing gets serious. Do you enjoy living out there? My primary concern, for me, is getting used to the time zone change for the financial markets. Did you have trouble adjusting to that? I mean I would need to up at 3-4 AM PST to speak with my early bird clients!! I am 44 years old, so trying to gauge the activities (not a gambling kind of guy, as you might imagine).

Good observation Gary. Every time I go out to Frontsight to teach a course, my fingers & lips crack and bleed like crazy. Not to mention I have gotten nose bleeds & drink water like mad. This opportunity and my love of crazy new adventures really appeal to me though

Getting adjusted to the dry climate is not that difficult. You MUST drink plenty of water, BEFORE you feel thirsty. Also good lotion for your skin is a must.

I have become an addict to Burts Bees lip balm and water is a must. Other than that the climat here is waaaaayyyyy better than Florida. No mosquitos no flies, and no humidity. The time zone isn't a big deal for me since I don't have to get up early to talk to east coast clients. One thing about Vegas is that it is extremely spread out and most of the better places to live are on the fringes of Vegas. As such it will be important to figure out what side of town your wife will be working in and get a place close to there. You don't want to live in Henderson and have your wife working in Centennial Hills. It'll take her an hour each way, though all in all Vegas traffic isn't bad.

As for things to do, in the summer we go boating most weekends and put in at Willow Beach which is on the other side of the dam in Arizona. The trip through Black Rock Canyon is great and smoother than being out on Lake Meade. In the winter my wife usually likes to ride her horse and I will take the kids skiing at the Las Vegas Ski Resort on Mt. Charleston. San Diego is about 4 hours away Yosemite about 7 and Bryce Canion and Zion about 3. There is always something to do which doesn't involve the casinos. In fact I always recommend staying away from them though the best restaurants in town are there so we do go sometimes.
