More than 6,800 Florida State University (FSU) students, alumni, and individuals in the public at-large completed a survey regarding FSU's original logo, new logo, and a third logo developed by Jodi Slade (FSU alumna and graphic artist). This research was conducted pro bono by two alums of doctorate programs at FSU and a current doctoral candidate at FSU.

The original logo was the most preferred logo (preferred by 50% of all individuals), followed by Jodi Slade's logo (42% preferred), and then the new logo (8% preferred). Results differed little by age, gender, education level, income, and other demographics, with the order of logo preference (original logo preferred the most, followed by Jodi Slade's logo, and then the new logo) consistent across all demographics.

For complete details, please view the full report at: http://www.kerr-downs.com/FSULogoReport.pdf

If you have questions about this research, please contact Joseph St. Germain, Ph.D. by email (joseph@kerr-downs.com) or phone (850.906.3111).

Wow. Love it, thanks for all the hard work.

After going through the study a little more it basically shows instead of people and fans liking the new logo it will actually alienate the Q logo... Also as I've been saying they lost out on so much money as it showed more people would have bought gear with the original logo had it stayed. Let's see how certain posters spin this... I won't name names but they (3-4 of them) know who they are.

Another goof up that will lost FSU tons of money and make fans angry. Only reason two posters on here say it's been ok is because the memberships and money is higher then ever... Ya because of the championship!

That is somewhat consistent with the preferences on the TC as well. From this study one could assume it is overwhelming what the masses think.

If I remember correctly, the poll on the TC had 83% against the new logo. This one has 92%. Kind of blows up the theory that the TC was on the fringe on this thing. I'm not surprised at the results, just at how large the disparity is.

As scientific and valid as you could expect something like this to be done.

Well done, Dr. Hedlund & team!!!

Is there a Dr. in the house? BOOM!!! Take it people responsible for this huge screw up and the people within the athletic administration that are being told to back it or else! You got on your knees for Nike...no other way to put it.

87% hate the cartoon logo to some degree.

That number seems low to me!

Obviously people have not given the new logo a chance and just haven't stared at it long enough.

Keep staring and you'll love it, right?

Great job on the research guys.

Those are not surprising results as I have met very few people that like the new logo, and I know a lot of Noles.

I'm honestly surprised how well the Jodi image did... even compared up against the original (looked to be a 5-4 split in favor of the Original vs. Slade).

As many have already stated, thanks for all your hard work.

I wish someone with a lot more money than I have would mail a certified copy of this to every single member in our athletic administration, the BOT, and our current President, Dr. Stokes so we can get back to being a unified FSU family. Throw that cartoon Chief Walmart, aka Skunk Elvis, aka "q boy" on top of the trash heap where New Coke is located and move on behind our true logo or the compromise of Jodi's logo.

Agreed, every FSU fan I know says its goofy. Every college football fan I know asks why it was changed and that the new one is a disgrace. I hope this thread isn't merged into the other one so we can keep this one from being so cluttered.

This also shoots down the talking point by the Nike crew that our fans would've hated any change to the original. This clearly shows that isn't the case, almost as many people like Jodie's logo as the original.

Good point, MrCop2You, if I can make a request to the admins here at Warchant to keep the two forum threads separate, I believe that would be best.

If you want to know more about the the methods, I have engaged over the past few days with Warchant users in a discussion of stats and methods. If you would like to know more about those technical issues, please see this forum thread here on Warchant:

I like the new logo and uniforms, all that research for nothing, the University nor Nike will attempt to change it or care about what others think.

I like the Slade logo better than the original. As much as we all love it, the original does have problems. Jodi's version actually addresses those problems where the imposter logo does not.

Also, I think the most interesting thing about the report was the section on age groups. The most receptive group to the new logo was 65+, giving it a 2.3. 18-24 only gave it a 1.7. I really didn't expect that.

This is what I have been arguing about... The younger demo is not going to become receptive and they don't like q boy. I've been told by a poster on here it they would come around to it... Not going to happen and maybe they can take the time to realize they might be too old when it comes to this research idea, facts can be tricky when it going against feelings.

While the results are very telling I do not think the FSU Administration, Athletics Department or the Seminole Boosters will even read it and digest what the implications are. Only until "financial" realities are realized will any of those entities care or look to please their customers, alumni and Boosters.

If that is the case, then they are beyond incompetent and need to be replaced with people who are not utterly obtuse to the reality staring them in the face. We don't need people like this running any part of our beloved institution.

Incorrect. They won't be able to ignore this study. FSU is already having meetings about the implications of this. What they actually do is anyone's guess, but they cannot ignore it.

If sales of logo merchandise go down after going 14-0 and winning it all there will be another change sooner rather than later. The administration could care a less what the opinions are, but both the administration and Nike care deeply about what sales and revenue numbers say.

All I can say is WOW! I totally expected the majority to reject chief walmart but not by that large of a wipeout margin. The rejection numbers from the 18-24 demo is especially pleasing. Now if we can translate these rejection numbers into refusal to purchase merchandise (please don't withhold other financial support) then we may really have an excellent chance to send skunk Elvis to the marketing disasters graveyard and get our original logo back.

Not saying that the survey is flawed, but based on its results it appears that only 50% of the respondents favor the "old" logo, while 49+ favor the revised logo or Jodi's logo.

OK, those who hate the logo and thought everyone else did too just won that debate. Now how about we show a little class, drop the pitchforks, and quit hating on our fellow Noles who just happen to like the new logo or didn't think it was worth arguing about. It certainly appears that this was a bad decision, but I don't believe it was done with any evil intent.

Their focus groups didn't give them a true picture, sometimes these things happen. It's not like someone really thought they would just do something to anger their fanbase. I was one of the first to say I didn't like the new logo. I really didn't think I could like anything less until I started seeing people on these boards attacking their own.

I think some of us read the "get over it" posts on these boards and attributed that attitude to people like Monk, Jerry, and Jam. From what little I do know, I know that isn't true. I hope this survey changes our direction. How about let's give it a chance?

Thanks for the great work. Honestly, this survey is devastating for the pro-new logo crowd. It pretty much proves what most of us already knew instinctually - the new logo is a disaster and people don't like it. Thanks for all your efforts!

I agree that personal attacks get you nowhere, but the "get over it" attitude is definitely real. It can be seen in the official statement from the University. Also, unless Jodi Slade is embellishing her story it is basically what she was told in her meeting.

Also, I don't believe their focus groups didn't give them a true picture. This makes it obvious that focus groups were either stacked or not done at all. For this survey to be true and for FSU to have done due diligence on this matter is not possible. One or the other has to give.
