Sounds like a great excuse in hindsight. But I think in this case it was simply a major goof.

Might have thought that but the team came out with a statement distancing themselves from the calendar, basically saying we have nothing to do with the calendar and no control of its content. So, it was a bad move and likely caused by just plain lack of any kind of perspective or awareness.
