What is the smart thing in the long term of this season to do as to the starting QB in the first games?

Travis has the most recent game experience and better command of the offense. So other than it being 1st game and against ND it should be just another game and season. While MM has to overcome emotions of finally playing again (3years), new offense, high fan expectations, new offense against a formidable opponent (ND). Why not ease him into the game with less pressure, get him into the flow again and in the long run it may be a huge benefit? Not saying who will be the #1 after the opener but lets give MM a chance to learn the game again, pace , rush, clock management, offense etc.
