Purdy a four star recruit, is he not a better option

Travis will never be a quarterback and will continue to get hurt. Milton makes way to many mistakes. Purdy should be ready, been here two years to learn the playbook.

Are we missing something? It’s not a good sign to not start Purdy. You don’t repeat the same old shit. Design your game plan around Purdy and lets get on with it!

Field position and 4th down tries

I know I have heard reporters ask about 4th down tries near 50 in our territory many times. But, going for it pretty much every time is killing our opportunities to pin the opponent back and starting our next possession with good field position. Yes our d hasn't done that on the few tries the coaches have given them, but we could work on improving that. Bobby and Micky loved playing field position, can we ask Norvell why he seems to refuse almost all opportunities to do so? Coach needs to learn from mistakes too.

Grasping at 2nd half Straws

The team going into the locker room at halftime with a comfortable lead returns with a different mindset than those losing by that margin. Everyone points to the 2nd half or 4th quarter performance by FSU in those games for a ray of hope that the team is improving, when in fact, it’s the other team taking their foot off the gas pedal that accounts for that scenario. Just my opinion for whatever that’s worth.

Great Crowd Yesterday

I’ll have to say that as bad as this team is, and it’s painful to watch sometimes, for the most part the crowd stayed and cheered them on.

There was a decent student crowd until it got out of hand in the second quarter. It got as loud as you could expect for a crowd of 60k or so. I just feel for that crowd. They want to win. You can hear they are doing their part. Norvell can not ask for any more support than he’s getting for the product on the field.

Special Teams KR. meh.

For all the time and emphasis MN says we spend on ST, our kick returning is atrocious. We need guys back there with some mental discipline. Most of the time, a fair catch is OK. Most of the time, we seem to return kickoffs (Douglas?) to the 15 and let punts (Helton) bounce on down the field. On KR, they should actually have a count in their head and only return short kicks or low kicks that get to them quickly. With all the penalties called on KR, why not just take the 25 without risking field position or turnover? Helton just needs to worry about catching the ball. Again, if a return is on, fine. But it isn't every punt.

QB etc

Not defending CMN, he needs to grow up and stop managing the game like he’s playing PlayStation with these bone head 4th down calls. But,

in all 4 games the other team has had the better QB. QB’s matter the most, ask Jimbo

players gotta start making plays when the ball is in the air, our guys just haven’t done it.

when your UCF transfer QB can’t connect with your Kansas transfer WR with game on the line it says a lot. Also says a lot that a non-starter from UGA is your best player on defense and a Miss ST DT comes in and is your best DT.

I have nothing but respect for Milton, but we need better QB play and we won’t win games until we get it. There is no eraser in college football like a QB and right now, we don’t have one, unless Chubba is the guy. I’d go to Chubba if I were coach.

Lost by 20 minutes

Loss is a loss. We're 0-4. And we suck.
But we "only" lost 20 minutes against Louisville. For the balance of the game - and this was truly shocking to me - we won the next 40 minutes. The penalties were erased, turnovers all but disappeared, and the players played very solid football. There are a few key plays missed that would have got us a win (and a lot of those fall on Milton), but we outplayed UL during the last 40 minutes of the game.

So... good job keeping your head in the game. Good job making coaching adjustments. Good job keeping the players focused.

Terrible result.

FSU is in worse shape than anyone wanted to admit

And I don't mean worse shape now. The program was in a bad place when Taggert came in, but no one wanted to acknowledge it. The program was in an even worse situation when Norvell came in, and again, no one wanted to out right admit it. The performance of the team last year should have easily convinced everyone that the "rebuild" was going to take at least 4 years before this program began to resemble the program of the past. But, guess what, no one just says the obvious. Just to be clear, when I say no one, I mean the people responsible for leading this program.

Wasn't it obvious how bad the situation was when Norvell practically rebuilt the roster in one winter/spring cycle. Why would anyone think that type of approach was going to result in substantial improvement this year. But hey, let's not be open about it. That type of move is designed to control the bleeding, not stop the bleeding. You stop the bleeding by going through this season knowing it's going to be ugly, but expecting the season to build the character and resolve of the team, and working to get a top notch recruiting class in with real top notch talent. The bleeding stops sometime during next winter and spring. The repair/rebuild begins next summer.

I've been waiting for someone just to be open and tell me what I already know, this is going to take time, there are no shortcuts. By not saying this openly, the leaders of this program are doing a disservice to the players, the fans, and the supporters. Maybe they are saying this to the players, and if they are, good. But why not just say it publicly. Set the expectations, why let the fans and supporters develop any type of unreasonable expectation.

The ND game was a sign that '"something was changing", but it should not have been confused with "something has changed". Remember the bleeding isn't under control, yet. So I ask again, why won't the leadership just be open and say things are changing, but there is still a lot of changing that needs to occur. Why not be open and say the team is going to have highs and lows, and possibly more lows than highs. Be open about the state of the team, and be open about the state of the staff. Let's not forget, this coaching staff is in the middle of doing something that I don't think any of them have ever tried to do, and I'm going to guess there aren't too many people out there who have come ino this type of situation at this type of historical program before.

In my opinion, Norvell's biggest mistake has been not being straight up and open about the state of the program. This has allowed the fan base to develop unreasonable expectations, has allowed the talking heads to develop unreasonable expectations, which just feeds the unreasonable expectations of the fan base.

I believe Norvell can control the bleeding. I believe Norvell can stop the bleeding. I believe Norvell can repair/rebuild the program, but it's going to take longer than anyone has been willing to admit publicly. Norvell has to bring in players that fit the Seminole standard, and he may need to make some coaching changes to fit the Seminole standard, and guess what, that takes time.

So fans/supporters, I think it's time we all admit that this program is no where close to what we want, and we should all be prepared for performances like the ND game and performances like the Jax St. game for the near future.
