PKU?

I know we have always thought of FSU as DBU, that comes in to question as the most dominant position for those in the NFL. Last night 2 of our Great PKs combined for 8 FGs (Gano 5 & Hopkins 3) and 5 ext pts, in a game between NY Giants and Washington. 29 pts combined!

Stop with the fire Norvell posts

First, FSU is not made of money and we are still paying off Taggart. FSU can’t afford a buy out. Second this is only year 2 for Norvell and we have a young team. Isn’t the full of thumb to give a coach 3 years to show improvement? Third, what respectable coach would want to come to FSU with a fan base that wants the firing of two coaches in five years?

Question for Ira - Hires

Ira, I listened to the recent Pod you just did, regarding our last game and reaction. You brought up Dan Lanning, and how FSU could have just made original moves with staff, and we might be much further along.

Is there motivation from FSU, boosters, etc to get Norvell some dogs. He is such an insane recruiter in his own right. I think we can see 3-4 here that could be upgraded, including a coordinator or two.

Is there commitment from FSU to do this? I still feel like Norvell the CEO could be elite. He can recruit, he can motivate, and the details matter. Get him some elite assistants, not G5 hires, and you finish the package of what might be missing.

Thoughts?

Would you forgive CMN for Jax State if we finish 5-7 with no wins over rivals? - Poll

5-7 at this point seems like close to a best case scenario…..would you forgive Mike Norvell for the Jax State loss if we got to 5-7 but didn’t beat any of our rivals?

Notes to Norvell

1. Stop running the wildcat period. Especially two downs in a row. Everyone in America knows Corbin is rushing it and Milton is zero threat as a WR.

2. Stop going for it on 4th down in horrible situations.

3. Teach your team what a penalty is. Run gassers until they drop for every penalty.

4. Stop abandoning the running game when it’s working.

5. Stop rushing a guy averaging 2 yards per carry when your leading rushers are going for 6-9 per clip.

6. Stop wasting time outs.

7. Stop letting your players celebrate when they give up a first down.

8. Teach your WRs how to secure the catch first. Make them catch the ball so may times in practice their hands bleed.

9. Run tip drills with your DBs.

10. Teach your DBs to turn and play the football in coverage!! This cost us two wins!

11. Learn when to play a prevent defense. That last play looked like a 4-2-5 robber, never again!

12. Don’t experiment with plays and players only up 10 points in a game ever.

13. Take the FG up 17-7 late in a football game.

Pressure on this Team for Saturday

The weight of the world is on this team for Saturday as all of a sudden a sleepy 50/50 game at Wake has become an indictment on the Norvell Era. Win and the team clearly has some resolve and will fight for their coach but is still on a week by week judgment scale after Jax State which doesn’t just go away. Lose close and it’s not terrible but still feels like the Taggart Era. Lose by double digits and Mike Norvell continues to lose support, this team likely wins 4 games max, and de-commits start happening.

Can they handle the pressure of that against a veteran team who isn’t that good but is sound and well coached? No evidence points to us being able to handle this pressure as we are for the most part a mentally weak team. Would also feel a little better if there weren’t rumblings of players checked out, and Taggart guys like Jay and Dent weren’t wearing orange at practice this week. I do give us a shot though if Milton and Jermaine Johnson both go off, but our OL musical chairs has me worried. The pressure this weekend on our team is enormous.

Fuller has got to go.

He’s so bad and calling a game it’s pathetic. Refer back to my 3 and 9 post. It won’t get better. I see better coached teams in Iowa with half the talent. Fire him tonight and toss Odell and Shannon the keys. Play the kids that have heart and don’t stop running or trying to tackle….. maybe pick a qb too. Screw this circus bs…. Watch the big teams and see the difference. It’s embarrassing how far behind we really are. Norvell you better buckle up

What defense do you run on the last play?

I’m not a defensive coordinator at any level and I don’t play Madden or whatever the popular video football game is these days.

But with 4th and long vs JAX State and there only being 6 seconds left on the clock I’m definitely not worried about a field goal play so forget that.

Its 100% prevent defense. My defense would be 3 pass rushers on the line rushing the passer, and drop 8 into coverage.

Of the 8 back in coverage I would put 5 DBs with their heels on our goal line and 3 safety’s on the 10 or 15 yard line and simply tell them to play the ball.

No way they get a TD.

What would you guys call?

A word to you all on character

If my professional career has taught me anything, it's how to be a better follower. If my life has taught me anything, it is to not throw stones. Lord knows I have made so many idiotic mistakes in my life, and have been embarrassed in so many settings, both professionally and personally, that I tend to extend some slack to others who aren't "at their best". I've found that sometimes the best thing to do is to highlight failures as teachable moments, and maybe offer some mentorship if I'm able; otherwise, exercise some patience. People of good character will take ownership of their mistakes, welcome criticism, and work hard not to repeat them.

People of bad character will lash out at others for their own failures, and try to pin the blame on someone or something that somehow absolves them of wrongdoing. Those folks don't have the "right stuff" to be leaders, or be placed into positions of authority and trust. No one is perfect, and so anyone who can't take ownership of a mistake can't be trusted, in my book.

I honestly wonder about those of you who are so quick to demand heads roll after a game. I wish the TC were a public forum that allowed us all to see YOU, personally, when you step up to the microphone to demand so-and-so be benched / fired. I hate to say it but I don't have a great impression in my mind (I imagine someone sitting on the couch, devouring Doritos, spewing crumbs while muttering "this guy sucks..." when watching these kids play the game.

I ask that we all take a step back, not kick these kids while their down. Norvell is the coach, and yes he made some terrible calls, but let's exercise some patience, and let them get on with fixing their mistakes. Firing anybody right now would be about the worst thing we could do, and if that's your go-to reaction when you see others make a mistake, I hope you are equally critical of yourself in your day-to-day life.

Clemson mistake gives NFL Seminoles a perfect night

Graham Gano was 5/5 in field goals for his NY Giants.

With the score 29-27 Giants…..6 seconds left… Dustin Hopkins misses a 48 yard FG …..BUT Clemson alumni Dexter Lawrence was offsides for his Giants……. and with no time on the clock, Dustin Hopkins got a second chance for a walk-off, game winning 43 yard FG……and drills it for the 30-29 Washington win.

Seminole kickers were 8 for 8 in field goals.

Amazing. Hats off to
Graham and Dustin!

Is Wake Forest literally the most important game for the future of the program?

I posted this in another thread but want to get more thoughts on this. Is the Wake game the most important for the future of the program? Considering if they lose, IN MY OPINION, the recruits start to jump ship, and really we may not ever get out of this cycle of mediocrity. Win, and we may start to build some momentum, but it has to be even further built upon the next week, and so on. If we were to lose this week, I'm not sure CMN will be able to fix this. Thoughts.

On FSU Downfield Passing: Let Us Count the Woes

As we're all aware by now, things aren't pretty for the FSU downfield passing offense. I looked into some numbers/reasons why there have been issues through two games.
