Why are we assuming we will

Loose to

Wake Forest – they scored 42 and 41 against old Dominion and Norfolk St. They are well coached but then again, they have always been that and still haven’t won anything. 1 game at a time 1 – 0.

Louisville – lost to ole miss and looked worse than we have. Beat E. Kentucky but will loose to ucf. before getting to FSU. 1 game at a time 1 – 0.

Syracuse – They have not shown ANYTHING close to being a team to fear. 1 game at a time 1 – 0.

UNC – We beat them last year with a squad that was not as good as this squad is. The QB didn’t look very good in their first game. Their O did not pass well with mediocre WR’s and no running game. Their D was not very good at stopping the run or pass. Then they beat Georgia st. 1 game at a time 1 – 0.

Then we have a bye week to get our minds right to knock off some of the teams on the back end of the schedule.

I’m mad, frustrated, in disbelief, etc. at what I have witnessed these past two weeks. But my mind will never let me be at the end of my rope when it comes to FSU and our sports teams where I start demeaning them.

I’ve read most of the posts following Saturdays upset loss. Never - ever should have happened, but it did. It’s fascinating that SOME posters believe they either haven’t made a mistake in the heat of the moment/battle or are the only ones that can correct their mistake and move forward.

A team with lesser talent that puts in the work can beat a team with greater talent that doesn’t. We the fans, the coaches, and players, took JSU for a sure W and we all paid for it. I truly believe we have better coaches and talent than any of the teams listed above. I also believe the coaches and players will be held accountable this week and put in the work. A team with lesser talent that puts in the work can not beat a team with greater talent that also puts in the work.

I’m ok with the bashing so have at it. But before you do, I ask that you think about the teams we have coming up and explain to me why they will be L’s for FSU using something other than we stink, we lost to an FCS team. If you’re apt to do so, please also constructively explain how/what we the fans, the coaches, and players can correct within our team to get the ship righted.

Is it time to play other guys ahead of Helton?

I like Helton a lot. Program guy. Character, leadership, and work ethic boxes all checked. Just one problem...he can't catch it consistently. It's hard to forget the game last year when he dropped two easy tds from Chubba. This year he had a chance to establish the tone in the game against Jax St with a TD catch that would put us up 7-0. No one around him and he dropped it, an easy one.

Maybe it's a case of the yips and he's overthinking it in games, but you can't have receivers dropping easy ones on this level.

I would keep him in the rotation but he would not be my starter at this point. I would turn to Douglas in his place.

RIP Trevor Moawad, a behind-the-scenes figure in Jimbo's run here

Trevor Moawad was the mental conditioning expert Jimbo brought in to help FSU in his early years. One of the few people Jimbo took advice from back then. You could actually hear "Trevor-isms" in things Jimbo would say in certain situations.

From what I recall, Mark Krikorian introduced them to each other. He was a nice, smart guy. Had no idea he was sick. May he rest in peace.

2009 similarities

Bobby's last year and Jimbo's 3rd year as our OC we opened the season at home against Miami on Labor Day and lost a tough game to Miami 38-34.

5 days later we hosted.... Jacksonville State and couldn't have looked worse. We trailed 9-7 with less than 40 seconds left but found a way to win at the end scoring 2 TDs in the final 35 seconds. Yes, we won that game, but if a couple fluke plays happened like tonight, it could've easily been a loss. Either way, we looked HORRIBLE in the win.

The next week we went on the road to play #9 BYU and were big underdogs. I had booked a trip to Provo for the game before the season and remember regretting it big time KNOWING we were gonna get killed.

Well, we ended up destroying them 54-28 on their home field.

Then just when everyone thought we had figured everything out we came back home and lost 17-7 to USF, then lost @BC, and then again at home vs. GT.

We then went on the road on a Thursday night and beat a pretty good UNC team and won 5 out of our last 7 only losing @Clemson and @ #1 UF the rest of the way on our way to a 7-6 season.

This team kinda reminds me of that one. I'm not sure we're gonna get to 7 wins like we did that year, but we aren't going 0-12 or 1-11 either so stop with that. We will win games that nobody is expecting and probably will lose at least 1 or 2 more that we shouldn't. It's gonna be a process with some major lows (Last night!) and hopefully some highs too.

Anyway, I know I'm rambling but "Things are never as good as they seem or as bad as they seem". I still have faith that Coach Norvell will get this thing turned around and wouldn't be surprised at all if we bounce back with a win @ wake next weekend just like we did @BYU in 2009.

And who would've guessed that 7-6 season in 2009 was laying the foundation for one of the greatest teams of all-time just 4 years later...

Go Noles!

"It's Bob" (This Time to USC)

Lots of rumors circulating about Stoopsie maybe taking the USC job. He's being coy and non-commital in his statements, but he definitely isn't shutting the door. Almost everyone has a "strike price," and my guess is that Bob's is now around $9MM-$10MM/per year.

I doubt that he gets this gig, but it's fun to see someone other than FSU playing this year's version of "It's Bob!"

Wake Forest Game

After the ridiculous loss to JSU and the reaction of the FSU community I think this team reacts one of two way. 1. They play tight afraid to make a mistake or 2. They play with an us against the world mentality.

I watched all of the interviews this week. These guys aren’t running from the mistakes, to the contrary they are owning them. That speaks to their guts. That speaks to their pride. You may not like the answers Fuller gave during his time with the mediabut he didn’t get pissed and walk away from it either. He invited more questions. I think we play our best game this week. Will it be enough I don’t know. But I’m still all in and I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I hope this team feels that way too.

The series inside the 10 where we had the incomplete pass on 4th down to Mcclain

Let’s discuss that.

Statistically, the fade to the corner is not a high% play.

Why not have Travis in on those red zone plays? His legs open up the playbook inside there.

Why not just go for a field goal there? If we are up 6 on that final play, maybe Fuller doesn’t go full on mashed potatoes for brains and puts everyone back on the goal line to prevent 6.

Trust me, I like how Norvell is an aggressive coach. Use to get annoyed at Jimbo being too conservative. Norvell just can not be wreckless.

I give MN some credit…

For sticking up for the horrendous defensive scheme to end the game. He said Adam Fuller called a two deep man under while Jax St was 59 yards away, who‘s kickers career long is 46 yards and 6 seconds to play. So that means we would’ve needed to keep them from getting to our 29 yard line in 6 seconds from their 41 in order to line up for a game tying kick! This play call just makes absolute zero sense to me as to why you would play man, squatting just 6-7 yards off the receivers and give them a chance to beat you deep. How do guys like Fuller get the opportunity to coach at such a great school when they are completely lost? As shit as this game was from top to bottom, we just needed our DC to have an ounce of a brain on this final play and we could’ve talked about an ugly win versus this embarrassment of a loss. Just unbelievable. Norvell should have the same pressure to fire Fuller as Bobby did to let Jeff go.

I’ll tell you what concerns me…

I’m not so concerned that we are 0-2 or that a long TD pass at the end of the game cost us a game. I’m concerned with Norvell’s lack of preparation for a football game. Any game, no matter the opponent.

Kirk Herbstreit said it best… “FSU didn’t lose on Saturday, they lost on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.” I don’t make millions as a coach but I could have had a better game plan for JSU than CMN. You run Corbin and run Corbin and eventually the defense softens up and you start having success. Instead we saw a circus show full of head scratchers for plays. People can blame the DB’s for not defending well against the Hail Mary, Helton dropping a TD pass etc…. But this game was lost by Norvell overlooking an opponent and not preparing for a game. That is the scary part.

People will also say that Norvell will learn from his mistakes. Well, FSU isn’t a school to learn from those type mistakes. Those mistakes are corrected in the MAC, SWAC, and WAC. A coach at this level should have already known better. That being said… I truly think Norvell was absolutely embarrassed and I think this team is prepared Saturday. I think we see a much cleaner game plan.

Sod game?

I haven't seen or heard anything mentioned, but I was wondering if this game against wake would be considered sod game? I know most people are upset still about last weekend and don't want to think about this, but I think a road win as an underdog and the bringing back some sod might give some juice back to this football team....maybe.
