Team stretch to start the day. A few guys still not able to touch their toes yet. Overall jumping jacks looked ok but a few guys were off rhythm. Still feel like there are some guys not giving it their all on the stretch.

1 on 1 session was fiesty. Sometimes one guy won the rep then at other times the other guy won the rep. Very encouraging.

11 on 11 we saw Milton throw a pass. WR may or may not have caught the ball. What we do know is it wasn’t intercepted. Overall Offensive line kept anyone from hitting the QB in the red jersey so that’s a plus. WRs are running their routes on every play when they aren’t blocking.

We will have interviews up later of coaches and players saying the same thing they’ve been saying for weeks now.

"We missed a chance to score on the same play before. Damond was open and we missed him and we decided to do it again."

Somebody help me out here. Against JSU, how many slants were thrown by our QBs? I can't make myself watch the game again. Too painful. But I'm genuinely curious. Dillingham said “They were essentially playing drop eight, deep quarters the entire game, just forcing you to throw underneath routes over and over again”. I remember yelling at the TV (or at least my wife says I was) to throw slants. They're high percentage completions, build confidence of the QB, easier for the O-line to block (less time), and we have athletes that can make YAC. Am I missing something?

I am at wits end like the rest...BUT, it is all my fault. We have two years left of this misery.

I looked up into the sky during half-time...I prayed, "...just give me this one and I don't care what happens for the next ten years". I was thrilled with the outcome, but, riding out my offer has been brutal.

With a win over FIU. They're a pretty good FCS program capable of beating many FBS programs . Their roster is filled with P5 transfers including Cooper (QB), a four star Clemson transfer. They committed as many penalties and mistakes as FSU, so it wasn't just FSU making the mistakes. Something to consider as we close this chapter and focus on Wake.

Very refreshing to hear our QB put things in simple yet technical terms. I thought his take on what he needs to do against Wake was good. If they go man he's going to find the best one on one matchup. If they cover well he's going to a rub route. Hell, at least someone has a plan they can articulate.

There was a good bit of discussion this week about Norvell's decision to send Milton, Johnson and Travis to ACC Kickoff. I wrote about that and how it's reflective of some of the challenges the coaching staff will face with this roster in transition.

I do agree also though that WF is a HUGE game for lots of reasons and losing close is not really an option.

Does anyone have an update on Emmett Rice's status? I know he is hurt, but how is his rehab going? Is he expected to be back anytime soon?

Will we wake up on this Sunday morning and feel as though this was what we hoped for from the season?
Will we call this season a success? What is a successful season?
Keeping Travis Hunter is how I would measure success for this season and how ever many wins that takes.

12:10 p.m. -- We talked to Norvell, DL Fabien Lovett and TE Wyatt Rector after practice today.

They all said the team has moved on from the Jax State loss and are completely focused on Wake Forest. Norvell talked a lot about the challenges Wake presents with some of their schemes, and he said they are extremely experienced.

Norvell also talked more about the offense and what they're seeing out of McKenzie and why he's now listed as the starter. (By the way, we know there's a lot of questions on here and on social about JT. And while we're not allowed to give a real update since Norvell didn't discuss it, I would just encourage people to chill out. We don't believe it's anything to worry about.)

That's about it for now. Austin will have a story coming pretty soon. Corey, Jeff and I are about to hop on Seminole Headlines from 1-3 (on the YouTube channel), and Tom Lang has a story coming later tonight as well.

10:40 — Defense has had some nice plays in 11-11 … Jammie Robinson had a good PBU and Meiko Dotson had a bit hit.

They’ve also been working a good bit against the scout team, so not much to report on that. We should be wrapping up soon. And will have interviews.

9:45 -- Offense not having a ton of success in 11-on-11, but there were a couple of highlights in 11-on-11. Milton had a really nice throw on the run to Camm McDonald, and McDonald made a nice contested catch. Purdy also had a big run during his series.

There are three players wearing orange jerseys today, which isn't a great sign. That likely means they were late for a meeting or something like that. We'll ask Norvell about it.

There also was a good battle between Patrick Payton and Jordan Wilson in pass-rushing drills. They got a little chippy in their first rep, and Wilson basically pancaked him on their second. Wilson, of course, has like 50 pounds on him.

9:20 -- Practicing in full pads today. Just finished up the two-minute drill stuff inside the IPF before they went outside for the main portion of practice.

Most of the good plays were by the running backs -- Corbin and Ward. Both had a couple of nice runs.

Milton only attempted one pass, and it was incomplete. Everything was covered and he got flushed out of the pocket. Purdy got a series, and it was pretty much the same.

Nothing noticeably different about the team's demeanor. Not a ton of chatter, but not overly quiet either. Just a normal practice.

wondering how you aren't in a prevent defense with 6 seconds left???

Ok lets say Fuller says they had no time outs left so he couldn’t tell the defense what alignment to get into. Lets say he says things were happening fast and they had no time outs. You are meaning to tell me no one on that defense out on the field had the brain cells or pop warner experience to yell, "Heeeey, there's 6 seconds left. EVERYBODY BACK THE HECK UP!"?????

No one had any awareness of the situation?? How long have these guys been playing football again? You don't need a coach to tell you not to be in a regular base defense with 6 seconds left and them being 60 yards away.

That's just pure ignorance and stupidity. Somebody out on the field has to have some intelligence that doesn't involve a coach telling them how to handle a situation.

Brian Kelly has been at ND for 12 years. Everyone is talking about his distasteful comments about killing his players. But right after those remarks, the guy's face said it all. DAMN where did these guys come from? There is no doubt in my mind his under wear had brown stains in them. Kelly was shocked from what he saw a year ago to last night. The size, speed, and the fight the team had last night. He couldn't stop raving about what Norvell has done in 1 year. Remember Kelly has been at ND 12 years. What saved him last night was the transfer portal getting that QB and 3 Ints. What's going to help FSU get back in 2 years is great recruiting and the transfer portal.


I would ask that people stop bashing Norvell, you could potentially be running recruits off. Let him learn how to win. WVU scored 70 on Dabo. Bobby screwed games up with bad calls once and a while. Jimbo blew the NCst game. If Norvell is going to make mistakes and grow as a coach let this be the year. Remember we're only suppose to win 5 games.

On September 15, 1973 I attended my first FSU football game as I had just gotten out of the USMC and enrolled as a student at FSU. I drove to Wake Forest to watch FSU lose 9 - 7 ( Wake's only win that season 1-9-1) FSU went on to lose every game in the mists of the 0 - 20 losing streak compliments of Larry Jones and Daryl Mudra.

Twenty seasons later I began my current streak of not missing games at home, on the road, bowl game and Covid (yes I made every game last year ) of 350 games at Wake Forest this Saturday. That is 10,171 consecutive days not missing an FSU game,

When I say the Jax State game is not the worst loss I have ever seen because Larry Jones's teams were like the 1962 Mets who could get thrown out from right field to first base. President Kennedy said there would be a man on the moon before the Mets won the World Series and that came true on July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and on October 16, 1969 the Mets beat Baltimore to win the World Series.

I will continue to support and cheer on FSU as long as we are the Seminoles. We may be down, we may be hurting, we may be frustrated, but as Annie would say, "The sun will come up tomorrow..." and it will. It did for us under a young Alabama guy by the name Robert Clecker Bowden who turned around the fortunes of FSU. Now I don't know if Mike Norvell will or won't but to get there we have to at least start the turn around with him.

So please if you can make the trip to Winston Salem, N.C. or if your in North Carolina please make the short drive and join me and other faithful FSU fans and lets do our part supporting this team now, and here's to seeing a win 48 years after my first FSU game.

I know you guys are dying to know what Clark thinks. So here goes ...

McKenzie Milton is a better thrower of the football than Jordan Travis. Those three passes he made last night - the sideline, the middle of the field to Helton, the shovel pass to Williamson - are just innate, natural-ability type throws that most QBs can't make. He's got just a special sauce in that regard that isn't normal. I get why those plays got everyone excited.

He also got to face a tired defense, in the fourth quarter, on a humid night, that had been chasing around RBs and the QB all night. He got two drives. He looked good in both - and frankly, looked much more mobile than I thought he would/could - but it was a small sample size. Especially for someone that hadn't been getting near the reps as the guy he was competing with (read into that what you will).

Travis faced a defense that had been preparing all offseason for him, and had gone up against him the year before. They took away his legs, they threw multiple blitzers at him on most every pass attempt, and quite frankly, he looked a little rattled and confused. He also put up 28 points and had the offense out to midfield after a 25-yard run when Milton took over in the fourth quarter. So, you know, he wasn't a complete disaster, right? Twenty eight points against Notre Dame (that great Bama offense put up 31 on the Fighting Irish a season ago) isn't anything to sneeze at. But yes, too many missed throws, too many interceptions, too many scrambles into tacklers. Too many 3-and-outs (though, false starts and bad snaps didn't help). I'm not arguing that Travis played great. Or even good. He didn't.

Thinking about the last three years, the fact that FSU could get not-great to subpar QB play (especially judging from the posters on this board) and still put up 28 points on a defense like that, with a coordinator like that, bodes very well for the future. Not just for this year, but for the coming years. This offense is going to be a bear to deal with.

Last year for FSU to do ANYTHING on offense, Jordan Travis would have to be sensational. He played the best game of his life last year against Notre Dame and they managed 26 points. He played like a JV QB to some on this wonderful website last night and he had 28 on the board and was driving again when Milton came in. Progress, folks!

Moving forward, I think both will play. I think both will be needed.
The key, to me, watching that game on Sunday night was that the running game didn't miss a beat when Milton came in. Even though he's clearly not the running threat Travis is on the read. It didn't seem to matter. That's GREAT moving forward. That should translate to many yards and many points, especially against defenses that aren't loaded up front and don't have Ronnie Lott playing safety.

I’ve seen and heard a lot this week about playing to our strengths, which would be running the offense with Travis. His mobility and athleticism with the O-line issues and lack of receiver strength would have probably won Saturday. However, Norvell is not recruiting players to run that type offense. It looks like he’s going to run his style offense and show recruits how they’re needed and they’ll be playing soon!
P.S. Saturday sucked

VT’s season opener 2010 they played a #3 ranked Boise state and loss in a close one 33 to 30.
The very next game on a short week they lose to James Madison(FCS) 16 to 21.

VT went on to win 10 straight games going undefeated in ACC play and winning the ACCCG for a orange bowl berth.

I’m sure the VT players and fans thought the season was down and out but somehow they found a way and kept CLIMBING!

Buckle up boys and girls it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

Okay now this is what I use to do for a living so this is my opinion right or wrong, but in my opinion our AD needs to have a very frank conversation about the expectations at FSU and what will not be aloud to happen. I am sure something of this nature has been said early on, but it needs to be reiterated strongly now. I would say this needs to get cleaned up within weeks or start making decisions on who to replace on the staff and if not I as the AD will step in and make those decisions.

I'm not saying fire the head coach as I believe he will at least run his 3 years out, but it's open season on everything else. Losing to an FCS team is completely unacceptable and cannot happen. No excuses

Now that the dust has settled, should we start to think of the next game as the one that will define Norvell? They played an pretty damn good game against a top 10 team. Yes there were mistakes but there was improvement. Next is JSU and is it the biggest loss in school history. Now we have two bodies of work. One not terrible and one a shit show. If we play a well coached game and win against Wake and correct the mistakes, is our identity ND or JSU?
