The nature of how the schedule has broken down of late for the Florida State baseball team (no Friday game last weekend at VT due to weather and a Thursday through Saturday series this weekend due to Easter being on Sunday) has forced the Seminoles to make a one-week change for this weekend's home series vs. Virginia.
FSU head coach Link Jarrett announced Wednesday that FSU won't move up either Jamie Arnold or Joey Volini, who each last pitched on Saturday in a doubleheader, to start the series opener Thursday night on just four days of rest. Instead, FSU will start John Abraham (4.05 ERA over 20 innings this season) for Thursday's series opener against the Cavaliers and that will serve as a bullpen game of sorts. Jarrett said that Abraham is capable of throwing as many as 60 to 70 pitches if things are going well and he didn't want to force either starter to pitch on four days rest after they each threw 98+ pitches on Saturday.
Jamie Arnold will move up just one day from his normal rest and return to his normal spot as FSU's Friday starter. Joey Volini will get his full week's rest and stay as the Saturday starter for the series finale. Sunday starter Wes Mendes will be used out of the bullpen at some point, likely in Saturday's series finale.
