Outstanding. The Missus and I rode to Four Corners in 2014 and did the trek through Monument Valley. Simply breath-taking.

New Orleans in December. I have a CLE on Thursday and Half day Friday. So going to stay over the weekend and do Christmas in NOLA. Going to Tea Time with Teddy on the roof at The Roosevelt with my little girl, carriage ride, Lights at City Park. Now trying to decide where to have Christmas dinner Saturday night.

Thinking about taking the RV down to Seminole Canyon in a couple of weeks.
It's in Texas, on the Rio Grande.

Going to NYC the week before Christmas. Got big theater plans:

Met Opera (Le Nozze Di Figaro)
Rockettes Christmas show
Avenue Q (saw it back in the day with the original cast, daughter is super excited)
Sweeney Todd (at a place off-broadway that serves authentic meat pies before the show)

Oh, also headed to Riviera Maya in three weeks. So, if I'm not around after that, it's because I was killed by the cartels.

Trip to Clemson with my son for whatever might happen during that game.

Heading to Disney with my wife right after New Years to do a little running for Disney Marathon Weekend.

Gonna check out the Volcano Bay water park next month.

I haven’t been yet as it’s ridiculously crowded, but I did see it from our window at Cabana Bay when I stayed there a couple of weeks ago for HHN. It looks absolutely amazing.

I might even see you who knows as we will be in Utah for a tiny bit. I’m leaving the middle of next to fly into Phoenix. Then we’re going to do the Sonoita and Willcox AVA plus spend some time in Tombstone and at the Casino Del Sol. Then up to the Verde Valley AVA, Sedona and then brewery tasting plus the observatory in Flagstaff. Then we’re doing Monument Valley, cutting over to Lake Powell to do a cruise plus some hiking around Antelope and Glen Canyons. Then we’re doing the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and maybe some other sights in the SE most tip of Utah. Then heading back to Phoenix to fly out.

Any suggestions for Lake Powell, Monument Valley and/or the North Rim? Such as restaurants, hotels, nearby daytrips not to be missed etc...? I’ve the Big 5 in Utah plus Goblin Valley, Pink Sand Dunes, the Staircase, Dead Horse (Valley?) and done all of the GC except North Rim before.

Awesome. I am staying at Cabana Bay also. Will probably spend a day at the hotel in their pool and what not and possibly catch a show with the wife and kids. Then spend another day at Volcano Bay.

Have you been to Medieval Times , Blue Man Group or Arabian Nights? What show/entertainment would you recommend for tweens, teens and adults to enjoy one evening?

Most of the services at the North Rim shut down this weekend (10/15) but I don’t believe they’ve had any snow up there yet so trails should be in good shape. Probably not much for food or a bed. I couldn’t resist the sweet sirens call of the Cedar Mesa area (BLM land north of Mexican Hat, UT) but my other choice for this trip was Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument on the NW side of the Grand Canyon. Should be pretty deserted out there this week which is usually how I decide to go somewhere.

Monument Valley is Monument Valley. Unless you’re going to take a Navajo-guided tour you pretty much know what you’re going to get. Great views but not much reason to stick around very long.

Not many restaurants or hotels that are can’t miss destinations in the area. But if you’re not set on Glen Canyon you should check out the Cedar Mesa area near Bluff. Goosenecks State Park

is a nice drive by spot, then head up hwy 261 and out to Muley Point (location of the dusk photo I posted earlier). Once you're up here you are on Cedar Mesa but most of the roads off the highway require high clearance at a minimum and usually 4WD.

Alternately, from Mexican Hat head over towards Bluff, UT and head up Comb Wash or Butler Wash. A crapton of really cool ruins and rock art sites all up and down here, including Procession Panel, one of the finest petroglyph sites anywhere.

This is a good overview of the area: http://www.americansouthwest.net/utah/cedar-mesa-grand-gulch/comb-ridge.html

Most of the ruin/rock art hikes in the area are less than 3 miles round trip, many are short walks (half mile) and some you can drive to.

Bluff has a few small restaurants and hotels. Desert Rose Inn is the place for moderately classy folks while the Recapture Lodge is more rustic and known as the local base camp when it's too hot or cold for camping. Forecast this week is low 70s/low 30s so I might wind up there when Mrs. Hayduke decides she wants a bed and heater instead of desert floor and sleeping bag.

I’ve been to all of those dinner shows plus La Nouba and Capones. Of those I’d say I enjoyed Blue Man Group ever so slightly more than the rest but Medieval Times is definitely a close second. For adults I think you would enjoy Blue Man Group better for kiddos Medieval Time BUT the Blue Man Group is definitely kid friendly. Lots of interactive things going on during the show, lots of cool/gross things like spitting paintballs and catching 100 marshmallows in their mouth to go with some really neat music. Moreover, as a Universal preferred annual pass holder I get 20% off Blue Man Group and it doesn’t have to be for me. If your interested I’ll give you my spam email account info and you can use my preferred number to save on the tickets if you do decide on Blue Man Group. I don’t have any discounts on the other dinner shows (except the pretty nice Luau at Royal Pacific in Universal. That’s absolutely awesome for adults (honestly I thought the Kalua pig was better there than the two Luaus I did in Hawaii including the famous one at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu) but especially if you have small kids they’d probably enjoy the entertainment elsewhere.

As far as Cabana Bay if you haven’t stayed before you need to know a couple of things. 1) The Tubes for the lazy river are not free so make sure you bring a CC to pay for those and your drinks. 2) The bar next to the main swimming pool called Atomic Tonic makes really good 1950s/1960s style daiquiris but DONT get the one with jalapeño, it’s too overpowering in the daiquiri so that grassy/herby flavor is all you can taste, it would have been miles better with a fruity pepper like habanero. 3) The Swizzle Lounge located where you check in does GREAT 1950s/1960s era sophisticated cocktails but it has really limited hours. Definitely worth a stop though.

And when you come back, I do like Cabana Bay and Sapphire Falls quite a bit, but Royal Pacific and especially Portofino are worth the upgrade. If I was “doing the Resort” I’d go with the pricier options, it is really worth it. But I stay at Cabana Bay when I want to drink that night and therefore want to stay “on campus” without driving but don’t want to take advantage of much of the Resort. (Aka I usually stay there everytime I go to HHN).

Likely nothing. Might try to take the kids for a couple weekend trips to Monarch or Loveland to try n get them on the snow. Otherwise, all vacation money has been spent till 2018.
