Angry White Dude's Rant About People Speaking Spanish In NYC Goes Viral
HuffPost • David Moye • 22 hours ago
A customer at a New York restaurant tried to chew out employees after he heard them speaking Spanish.

Instead, his fellow customers laughed at his rant, especially his threat to report the restaurant to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

A now-viral video posted to Facebook by Edward Suazo shows a very angry white man going ballistic when he overheard workers at Fresh Kitchen, a midtown eatery, speaking Spanish to customers.
In the video, the man tells an employee, “Your staff is speaking Spanish to customers when they should be speaking English... This is America.”

“My guess is, they’re not documented, so my next call is to ICE to have each one of [them] kicked out of my country,” he said. “They have the balls to come here and live off of my money I pay for their welfare, I pay for their ability to be here. The least they could do, the least they could do is speak English.”

There are two other videos of him going on racist tirades in the last couple years. Def not an isolated incident on a rough Tuesday.

The guy embodies the spirit of so much of what is wrong in the world. I hope someone gives him a hug and tells him "cálmate, estará bien."

I always find it interesting that the same type of tirades are not directed--to my knowledge--to Asian Americans. The place my wife and i go to get our nails done (yes, you need to get your nasty toenails professionally done because, if not, that's nasty) they speak nothing but Korean to each other. Our local pho place speaks nothing but Vietnamese to each other (I have been trying to learn some terms) in the restaurant. I know if you go down to the diamond district in NYC, you hear nothing by Hebrew. And my mom's old russian neighborhood in LA, they speak nothing but russia--even the graves are written in Cyrillic But I don't recall this type of vitriol for those ethnicities.

Do it at a card game in a casino and see what happens? LOL! Yes I know it's different.

I can't even speak my parent's mother tongue but have gotten at least a couple dozen "go back to where you came from"s in my lifetime.
Fortunately none with the belligerence of this ass hat though.

I have no idea why these uneducated pricks keep telling me to go back to South Georgia. Of all the places I could move, that might be the last! (Apologies to 229 if he sees this).

Funny thing is, he actually is fluent in Spanish according to his profile.

This was on the main board and someone posted it. Shaun King is apparently the person who blew this up and outed the guy on Twitter. Shaun isn't very well liked on the main board.

I find the star bellied sneetch stuff bizarre.
I’m in the Dennis Miller camp, why hate someone for something they can’t control like their ethnicity, when if you just take the time to get to know them you can come up a list of real reasons to hate them.
It’s lazy.

Irish need not apply signs aren’t as in vogue, but I think it’s cool there are more people of Irish descent in the US than in Ireland.

To your point about Asian communities:

Yea I saw on his "law firm" website that he (or someone at his firm) speaks Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Hebrew.

As for Shaun... is there anyone who IS well liked on the MB?

I suspect that’s not Miller’s current position. He has jumped on the alt-right money train. Funny what happens when your fledging career goes south- you got to make that paper somehow

I think we all know the reason for this but it can't be discussed on this board.

What's in South Georgia?

Cairo? You a syrupmaker?

This headline is almost as bad and insulting to white people as when the Parkland shooter Cruz was falsely accused as a white supremacist. Why the need to single the color out by Huffington Post? By most definitions aren't Jewish people considered minorities and historically oppressed and discriminated against? Are they saying that any ignorant and crazy bigot that has light skin is just a "crazy white guy"? Seems to kinda go against what the huffpo supposedly stands for.

Sure does take a gringo to make this about his oppression. Poop is just upset because Whole Foods didn’t have the right kombucha. (I keed)

The places we get our nails done are staffed exclusively by Vietnamese people. They often talk extensively in Vietnamese assuming my partner does not understand, only to be quite surprised when she jumps into their conversations.

Lol- in my family, my Hispanic wife doesnt speak a word of Spanish. I do. The look of utter shock when she tells the person to speak to her gringo husband is funny. Ironically if we were traveling through AZ, I would have the difficulty proving my citizenship

I don't care for Shaun King. What's odd is I have no issues with the substance of his tweets, just something about his lecturing style that turns me off.

I work with quite a few Vietnamese and besides introducing me to Pho, I also learned they have the nail salon market nicely cornered (all of their wives own nail salons in Houston, Dallas, and L.A.). Oh saying they love karaoke is a massive understatement!

My wife, of Jewish/French Canadian descent, spent 18 months studying abroad in Panama while at FSU. Back in Tallahassee she had 3 guys behind her in line at Publix commenting to one another about her looks in Spanish. Their faces were hilarious when she wheeled on them and fluently gave them a piece of her mind in their native tongue.

yeesh, Panamanian Spanish is so difficult to understand. Frankly most of Central America and Cuba is. They don’t finish their words and have so many Spanglish words that have been adopted. We were in Costa Rica and I was having a terrible time understanding and my wife was just laughing at me.

I saw a clip of the guy being confronted by the NY Post today. Backed himself against a wall and covered his face with an open umbrella.

The media shouldn’t do this. The guy is a nativist- fine. It is what it is. Going after him like this just emboldens fellow xenophobes and encourages more radical responses.

Just goes to show you in today's world of instant cell video and viral social media, your 30 seconds of behaving like a dbag can ruin your life for yrs. (Although I feel like this guy acts like this more often than not).

Probably because when making a phone call, you've never had to "press 1 for English" because Vietnamese or Korean is one of the other options, lol.

Guy sounds like an idiot, to be Frank I’d be very shocked to go into a store in NYC and not hear another language being spoken.

Yep cool story, although I read the same article that was posted by ucla up above.

I started my post and then got interrupted by a phone call.........I saw other people post, but wasn't paying attention to what they posted.

Oh the horror

The guy is a world class POS but the mob mentality to bring this guy down is just as bad.

Shaun White is race-baiting fraud. The male Rachel Dolezal.

I'm indifferent in this case. It's not like he got caught making a joke or just slipped up with some bad words. He confronted strangers and threatened to have them physically deported from the country. His boldness kind of implied that talking to the NY Post should be no big deal. He'll be forgotten to most of the world in 2 weeks, but will probably need to find a a law firm that will let him work without hanging his name on the door.
