The No. 30/RV Florida State cross country teams will begin the 2022 season on Friday by racing in the Covered Bridge Open, which is held in Boone, N.C., and hosted by Appalachian State.

The women’s 5K is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the men’s 8K will follow at 5:45 p.m.

“We’re really excited to open the season again at the Covered Bridge Open,” FSU coach Bob Braman said. “We have a 20-year tradition of opening at Appalachian State on their beautiful course, nestled in the cool mountains. We have several impact newcomers and they’re in for a cross country treat.”

This is the second of three trips to Boone, N.C. this season for the Noles. Both teams endured preseason training camp in August and FSU will return to face RV/NR Tennessee in a dual meet on Sept. 16.

FSU is familiar with starting the season at the Covered Bridge Open, as the Noles have swept both races in the previous four meets. Overall, FSU had swept 12 times.

In addition to the Seminoles and the host Mountaineers, Louisville, Mercer, UNC Asheville, Western Carolina, Lenoir Rhyne, High-Point, Less-McRae, Tennessee Tech, Southern Indiana, and West Florida.

Noles in the Polls

The women’s team will start the season ranked No.30, while the men were second in receiving votes in the national USTFCCCA polls, which were released on Wednesday.

The women are ranked No. 3 in the South Region and the men are fourth.

“Being ranked 30th for the ladies and 32nd for the men is about right for the preseason national rankings,” Braman said. “We have a lot of new faces on both teams that we’re counting on heavily, so I am sure the pollsters took a wait-and-see approach for the 2022 Seminole harriers.”
