FSU sports information:
The No. 1 Florida State soccer team (4-0-1) claimed its fourth shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over Villanova (3-2-0) on Sunday afternoon. Taylor Huff scored her fifth goal of the season to cap off the four-game homestand.
The Seminoles established steady control early on, firing 13 shots to Villanova’s one in the first half alone. FSU capitalized on the start as Huff’s cross from the corner spot swung in and spilled to Sophia Nguyen who had her shots blocked before Mimi Van Zanten placed her effort into the roof of the net for the opening goal. Van Zanten has scored three goals this season.
Florida State continued their momentum into the second half and built together a wonderful team goal that saw Ran Iwai connect with Huff at the front post to secure the second and final goal of the afternoon. Huff has recorded 14 points inside the first five games of the season, half of her total points scored from last season.
FSU continues its 28-game unbeaten streak and has fired 21 goals inside the first five games, the most since 2009 (24).
Florida State will travel to Gainesville for a rivalry match with Florida next Sunday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (SEC Network).
