FSU routs Missouri State 97-66 in game 2 at Paradise Jam

The Florida State women’s basketball team (7-1) downed Missouri State (4-2) on Friday, 97-66 at the Paradise Jam at the University of the Virgin Islands.
The Seminoles were 14-of-30 from the three-point arc with five players contributing, led by Mariana Valenzuela and Sydney Bowles who each posted four off the bench. In her second game this season, Valenzuela tied her career high with three-pointers made, adding 14 points and grabbing three rebounds. Bowles scored 16, making six shots from the floor.
Carla Viegas added three three-pointers, tallying nine points, while O’Mariah Gordon made the first three-point shot of the night and finished with eight points, three rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
Makayla Timpson added her fourth double-double of the season and 35th of her career behind 18 points and 12 rebounds. She swatted two blocks, totaled four steals a passed a pair of assists.
Timpson is six double-doubles away from tying the school record set by Natasha Howard with 41.
Ta’Niya Latson led all scorers with 21 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds and dished five assists.
In the first, the Seminoles took advantage of the three-point shot as the first six buckets made were from three, including two from Bowles. FSU went in front, 20-14.
The Seminoles extended the lead in the second behind a 10-0 run that included a pair of threes. Up 33-16, the Lady Bears answered with a 13-4 stretch as FSU took the 38-31 lead to the locker room.
In the third, the Noles started with a 9-0 run, with Latson contributing seven points, breaking the game open. FSU outscored Missouri State, 30-20, putting up the fourth 30-point quarter of the season.
FSU added 29 points in the fourth, ending on a 15-1 run to take down the Lady Bears, 97-66, finishing 50 percent (34-of-68) from the floor with the bench contributing 41 points.
The Seminoles will face Gonzaga (4-4) on Saturday at 8 p.m. to close out the tournament.
