The No. 5 Florida State soccer team (12-2-3) advanced to the ACC Championship in penalty kicks over No. 4 Notre Dame (14-2-3). The score was 3-3 at the end of overtime and the Seminoles advanced 4-2 on PKs.

The Seminoles struck first in the 13th minute on a header from Clara Robbins after a beautiful cross from Onyi Echegini. Echegini tracked the ball into the left corner before serving a nice pass to the top of the 18-yard box to Robbins who headed the ball in for her fourth goal of the season. It was the two-time ACC Tournament MVP’s fifth ACC Tournament goal in her career.

Notre Dame rebounded quickly scoring less than a minute later on a goal from Korbin Albert.

Florida State took back the lead in the 32nd minute after Heather pain drilled a penalty kick into the back of the net. Payne stepped up to the PK after Echegini was fouled just above the PK spot.

The Fighting Irish took a 3-2 lead midway through the second half after Korbin Albert earned a hat trick with her second goal of the game at the 56:32 mark and her third goal just 27 seconds later.

Florida State tied it up in the 73rd minute on Emma Bissell’s third goal of the season. Maria Alagoa sent in a cross from the right side that was punched away by the Notre Dame keeper. Bissell was on the right end of the rebound and cleaned it up by finding the back of the net.

The game headed to overtime tied at three and after two 10-minute overtime periods, the game was still tied at three and was heading to penalty kicks. After the Seminoles missed their first PK, Cristina Roque came up huge, denying Notre Dame’s first attempt. Florida State went on to make their next four attempts and Roque came up big once again shutting down the Irish on their fourth attempt, leading to a 4-2 advancement in PKs.

With this advancement in penalty kicks Florida State is now 12-4 all-time in PKs and Roque is 4-1.

Love, love, love this result! ACC creates such a tough regular season experience, that the NCAA Tournament is not a shock. BEAT UNC!!!
You can pretty much guarantee an ACC team to make the College Cup. In the entire history of the College Cup, going all the way back to 1982, only one season did an ACC team not make it (2004). In most seasons it's been two or three ACC teams.
