FSU sports information:
The No. 64 Florida State women’s tennis team will wrap up its regular season in the Tar Heel State this weekend, beginning on Saturday at 11 a.m. at No. 3 Duke, and concluding Sunday at noon against No. 6 North Carolina.
FSU defeated Duke 6-1 last spring at home and has won two of the previous three matches. Millie Bissett and Laura Putz bring valuable experience ahead of the top five matchup, each earning a straight-sets singles victory against the Blue Devils last season.
The Seminoles aim to avenge a 5-2 loss to North Carolina last season. Kristyna Lavickova earned a three-set singles victory in last season’s match against the Tar Heels.
In the latest ITA poll, Florida State climbed 11 spots in the team rankings, moving from No. 75 to No. 64. Putz and Bissett are ranked No. 62 in doubles, followed by Eva Shaw and Maria Juliana Parra Romero at No. 76.
FSU enters the weekend after defeating No. 36 Wake Forest 4-1 on Senior Day. The Noles earned three of their four team points via straight-set victories in singles.
Bissett had an outstanding final weekend at home, finishing with a 3-0 record, including ranked victories in singles and doubles. She defeated No. 68 Anna Zyrynova of NC State 6-4, 6-2 and, with partner Tina Li, defeated No. 78 Nevena Carton and Kady Tannenbaum of Wake Forest in doubles.
Freshman Mary Boyce Deatherage earned her 15th victory on Sunday, improving her record to 15-8 this season.
Parra Romero closed out her final match at Speicher Tennis Center with a victory on Sunday, defeating Makayla Mills 6-4, 6-1.
