Press release from Florida State:
Berger, Koepka Selected to Team USA at Ryder Cup
A pair of Florida State Men’s Golf Alumni will be representing Team USA at the 2020 Ryder Cup in Whistling Straits at Kohler, Wis., from Sept. 24-26.
Seminoles Brooks Koepka (2008-12 at FSU) and Daniel Berger (2011-13) will compete in golf’s popular biennial competition that pits Europe against the United States. Koepka makes his third appearance after playing in the last two events in 2016 and 2018, while Berger was honored with his first selection as a captain’s pick by Steve Stricker.
Berger was one of six automatic qualifier picks made by Stricker on Wednesday, joining fellow qualifier selections Harris English, Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth.
Only Florida State and Texas have multiple Alums on Team USA, as Spieth and Scheffler both are Longhorns.
Koepka, who owns four major titles, has a 4-3-1 overall record at the Ryder Cup. He helped give Team USA the Ryder Cup victory in 2016 when he went 3-1-0 at Hazeltine as the United States won 17-11 for its first win since 2008.
The two FSU Alums played together at the 2017 USA Presidents Cup at Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, N.J.
Berger has enjoyed another solid season in 2021, earning eight Top 10 finishes and taking home the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am title this season. He owns four PGA TOUR victories and finished 11th in the FedEx Cup standings this year.
Berger becomes the fourth Seminole to participate in a Ryder Cup, joining Paul Azinger (1989, 1991, 1993, 2002), Hubert Green (1977, 1979, 1985) and Koepka (2016, 2018).
The six Team USA automatic qualifiers include Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay.
The Ryder Cup begins on Friday, Sept. 24, on the GOLF Channel from 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. ET. It continues on Saturday, Sept. 25, airing first on the GOLF Channel from 8:30 a.m.-9 a.m., then moving to NBC from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event wraps up on Sunday, Sept. 26, from Noon to 6 p.m. on NBC.
