IMO, it's Forrest Gump, it is the best movie start to finish. IMB has it ranked #32, I think it's #1 and having it anywhere outside of the top 10 is an absolute JOKE.

Side note: I was able to convince my High School AP U.S. History teacher to show the movie in class and just cover all the historic topics that were covered in the movie. He was an older gentleman and appreciated the topics covered in the movie and my out of the box thinking to not only educate the class on the historical events but to do so in a way that kept the attention of class.

Best Movie: Forrest Gump

Forest Gump wouldn't be in my top 200.

I don't actually think Jaws is a crazy ridiculous answer. You could make a stronger case for that than some might think.

I don't know that I can pick one best, but I would probably pick it out of a hat among Psycho, Citizen Kane, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, 2001 Space Odyssey, Godfather 1. Vertigo, Singing in the Rain right there also.

Over the last 20 years I would say, "No Country for Old Men" would be one of the top. That is one of those movies that ensnares my attention every time it is randomly on.

I haven't seen all of the old classics, so I'll choose from what I've seen obviously. These come to mind immediately:

It's hard for me to pick the best movie ever. I can say the movie if I was trapped on an island and would want is American Pie. Goes to my youth. As far as top movies.

Schindler's List
Full Metal Jacket
To Kill a Mockingbird
Seven
L.A. Confidential
Terminator 2

My top 5 favorite movies since we're making a list.

1.) Goodfellas
2.) Braveheart
3.) Shawshank Redemption
4.) Gladiator
5.) Forrest Gump

I always tell people that these movies are loosely based on my life :)

Tough to name just one. I have favorites in every genre.

If I had to pick a single movie I’d maybe say Fargo. Love that flick.

A lot of good ones mentioned already. For me, the standard of a great, classic movie is, if I'm flipping through channels, will I watch if it's on?

Some that meet that standard:

Pulp Fiction
Goodfellas
Silence of the Lambs
Shawshank Redemption
Roadhouse

I treated this more seriously than the question probably deserves and pulled up a bunch of top 100 lists for each decade and some genre lists as well. Then I jotted down my favorites from the lists and then thought about them. Which movie do I most want to see again and can stomach seeing over and over again? So this isn’t a list of best acting, best editing, best story writing etc...although most are at least good in all three categories. Instead these are movies I’m most likely to put on when bored and there’s nothing new.

My top 25 movies are

1) Oh Brother Where Art Thou
2) Big Lebowski
3) The Princess Bride
4) Christmas Vacation
5) Idiocracy
6) Jaws
7) Shaun of the Dead
8) Ghostbusters
9) Groundhog Day

21) LOTR Fellowship of The Rings
