Kentucky derby

That drift move could’ve resulted in a really ugly situation if those riders that were cut off didn’t pull up...and after all the horse accidents/deaths in Santa Anita...they are obviously changing the way they judge these races. Ironically, the inquiry didn’t start with the stewards, it was started by the two jockeys that were cut off. Everyone (horses and riders) got out safe....and the right decision was made.

Seems like this was considered a no brainer DQ from everything I’ve read.

Seems like a good situation for both horses and their owners. Both can claim the win and charge top $$ for studding.

Isn't that the point of horse racing?

So how is it not obstruction when they come out of the starting gate and they cut in front of each other??

That’s what happens when they extend the field to 20 plus horses...that needs to be addressed soon. Riders from the outside posts trying to get to the inside. The rule last Saturday was enforced because the “leading horse” swerved (or drifted) or is ridden to one side or the other that interferes, impedes or intimidates one or more horse or jockey. The starting gate question is a good one, but all horses are basically equal, but if the foul is egregious enough, that horse and rider could be disqualified or dropped from their eventual finish position. Maximum Security/his rider clearly impeded the path of horses challenging for the lead late in the race...well into the final turn. It’s a miracle none of those horses went down. The sport is reeling due to a recent spike in bad accidents and horses having to be put down, and if that happened on the sports biggest stage, it would’ve been damning for the sport.

Two issues here. Too many horses and the bad weather conditions.

Luckily for the Preakness....the field is down to 13 as of this morning if no one scratches, and the weather in Baltimore is supposed to be beautiful Saturday. There’s some money to be made here....
