Freshman guard Ta’Niya Latson won her seventh consecutive ACC Rookie of the Week award, announced on Tuesday by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Miami native played a huge role in the Seminoles getting off to a 1-0 start in conference play last week following an entertaining 92-85 win over rival Miami at home. Latson notched her 13th game with 20+ points this season, delivering 21 along with six assists in the victory.

Latson became the ninth Seminole to go 10-of-10 from the free throw line in a game, using a big fourth quarter where she scored 10 points to help seal the rivalry win.

Latson was recently named one of the nation’s Top 25 women’s college basketball players by ESPN. She is the only player in the country who ranks in the Top 3 in total points (third; 350), free throws made (second; 105) and field goals made (third; 242).

Ranking in the Top 3 in the nation in all three categories raises the conversation that as just a freshman, Latson might be the most versatile scorer in the country. Despite her high volume of shots from the floor (242 total attempts), Latson is shooting 50.4 percent overall and 40.4 percent from 3-point range.

She continues to lead the ACC in scoring at 25.0 points per game while igniting the Seminoles to their best start at 12-2 overall since the 2019-20 season. Latson’s scoring has been a big part in FSU showing a near +18.0 points per game improvement in scoring (87.9 from 70.0) from its first 14 games in 2021-22.

Latson and the Seminoles prepare for a tough test on Thursday night at 8 p.m. as they face No. 13 North Carolina on the road. The game will be televised on several of the Bally Sports networks, including Bally Sports Florida/Sun.
