Florida State returned to normalcy at Monday's practice. With the bye week over, the Seminoles began preparing for their game against Wake Forest at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C. Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher, who will not be meeting with media this afternoon, discussed practice habits at his Monday press conference. His main point detailed how players need to love practice and understand that mentality carries over into games. It appears some of those players understood the message as practice was pretty business-like. Now, for the news:
From what we viewed today, there was no one in a blue non-contact practice jersey nor was there anyone riding a stationary bicycle. Again, from what we viewed, the Seminoles appeared to have nearly everyone in shells at practice.
The secondary appeared to be focused during drills. Defensive backs coach Charles Kelly had the defensive backs work on fighting for a ball out of mid-air. Basically, the defensive backs will backpedal and when a ball is thrown, they'll jump for control. It is usually pretty customary and it could be a resource against Wake. This will be the first time this season the Seminoles face a pass-first offense. Another group who could be busy Saturday might be the linebackers. Like the secondary, the linebackers did their normal routine in the open practice session. Most of it was focusing on one-on-one tackling drills.
With RB Mario Pender still in the hospital recovering from a collapsed lung, there's a battle to see who'll pick up carries after Dalvin Cook. Freshman Jacques Patrick was second in reps and sophomore Jonathan Vickers was third. Patrick has three carries for 13 yards while Vickers has not logged a carry this season.
Ryan Hoefeld was taking first-team snaps at center. That's happened before and Fisher once said it was to build depth. It does not sound like a change is looming. Fisher said during his press conference he was pleased with what he's seen from Corey Martinez, who has started at center, to this point in the year.
The Jets and Ravens were the NFL teams at practice.
Here's your Tweet of the Day:
Again, with Fisher not meeting with media, we're set to get players around 5:45 p.m.
Check back throughout the day for more updates.
Until then. Goodbye for now.
