Perspective on Coach Bowden

Lately there have been lots of debate and frustration with Coach Bowden, either hiring his son, the dark years, not doing enough for the boosters(that is the best one!) and even his latest comments about FSU players. I know I have felt that frustration and wish he would just go enjoy all that retirement has to offer.

Then I watch We Are Marshall, and am reminded that he was a great man, and a great mentor and everything we now complain about -- getting Gameday twice a year, not being included in the top ten every week and worried about being in the National Championship playoffs, he made possible by making us a great power in college football.

Some of us remember Doak Campbell as just an iron stadium, bigger than most high schools, smaller than most colleges. Almost all of us forget that when Coach Bowden came to FSU, we were no bigger of a program than Marshall with the occasional win against a big opponent but never even a whisper on the national stage as a premier program.

Since his arrival we are now the most talked about program both good and bad, and are always on the national stage.

Yes, I feel better saying this...and regret how quick to judge we all are based on the legacy he left.
