Supers and WCWS Thread

Another long long day at the park, started at 11 AM with the OU/UCLA tilt followed by the "if" game then starting at 6PM the Texas/OSU game and if game.

Just a few general observations in whole. OU is dominant simply because they have numerous batters that can go deep. However, when the strike zone is not squeezed tight ( high/low or side to side the pitchers can dominate. However, over half the plate umpires restricted what pitchers could do. If the ump does call low ball, drop pitchers are in trouble, same with the top of the zone, rise ball pitchers are in trouble. Forget a pitcher used to throwing curves to the outside of the plate, most could/wound not call them. When those pitches were called strikes it negated the HR hitters but when not called the pitchers had to throw a "meat" pitch and it was bombs away.

The NCAA ran continuous ads for the need of more sports officials especially in softball. They also need consistent strike zone calls. ASA did this years ago and I am sure they still do it today. With today technology it should be much easier to spread to all conferences what the 'called strike zone' is and enforced. But for Regional,Super, and WCWS a clinic to make sure all zones are as similar as possible.

Crow hopping was not a major issue across pitchers but there were one or two that got away with it all tournament. Call it or switch to international rules, make it consistent.

Slappers - noticed some get away with stepping out of the box towards the plate but a new thing was them totally leaving the box towards the pitcher. Again, need more consistency overall.

The Championship series will likely go OU's way as out of the possible three games called two will most likely be tight zones based on what the existing crews have called. Like UCLA, Texas can upset OU once, but twice will be difficult. OU has both good pitching a great hitters, and mashers too!

I was most impress with OU's ALO not because of the power but when she gets two strikes she focuses on driving the ball to the outfield as opposed to trying to launch it as she will do until she gets 2 strikes. Wish FSU could have her as a hitting instructor.

Didn't you say your seats were on the baseline...first or third?

Champ Game 1 was over in first inning. Texas started good with a double followe4d by OU's pitcher (along with a tight zone) being erratic and walked three batters. However with the bases getting loaded UT was not able to capitalize with any hit, lead 1 - 0 with OU coming to bat. Two batters later (with two pitches down the center of the zone) OU took the lead for good 2 - 0. A few batters later OU gets another HR and leads 5 - 1 and Texas is on third pitcher. Needless to same game over.

In the typical wisdom of the NCAA they did away with the run rule in the Championship to OU wins 16 to 1 but lead 10 - 1 after 3, 12 - 1 after 4 etc.

When a team has more errors than hits or runs it will be a long night. Not to mention giving up six HR's.

OU is obviously a great team top to bottom. They are head and shoulders above the rest.
That said, I despise them. They are an arrogant bunch.
They talked about having a chip on their shoulder playing Texas earlier in the tournament.
Why? Because Texas had dared win a game against them.
It's like, "How dare Texas beat us. We are the queens and everyone else are peasants!"

ARROGANCE doesn't wear as well as humility!
