The problem isn’t talent evaluation. The same coach brought in Jermaine Johnson, Trey Benson, Johnny Wilson, Jammie Robinson, Kier Thomas, Cam Riley, Tatum Bethune, etc., when they weren’t highly coveted out of the portal. FSU was amongst the first P5 offers and even received commitments at one point in time from bonafide 5/high 4* guys like KJ Bolden, T Hunter, Luke K, A Williams, Dante Moore, Brady Smiegel, K Faulk, G Harris, R Kearney, Lucas Simmons, Tramell Jones, Landon Thomas, CJ Baxter, T Williams, B Jennings, A Blount, R Pittman, Altmeyer, S Thomas, etc., only problem is he also received decommitments from all but 2 as well. I’d like to think H Williams and Charles Lester pan out, but I doubt it. Those aforementioned guys will all be bonafide CFB as all-conference caliber players. A better coach and better personnel coordinator ala Jimbo Fisher, wouldve not only kept those as Noles but equally importantly kept those guys eligible..,
The problem is, for anyone who doesn’t follow recruiting (totally understandable, fickle business moreso now than ever) is that Norvell can’t package the money/playing time/an NFL ticket in a way that 95% of those guys don’t bail, rather than stick with the program. His best recruits from 2-3 year ago Armella, Luke K, Destyn Hill, M McClain, Green Jr, McCall, Duffy, Purdy, are already in the portal or long gone.
Jimbo Fisher, like him or not had a vision to sell. NFL & CFB success. Even his biggest admonishers have to acknowledge he won 10+ games in 6 out of 8 seasons here. At this point I don’t see how anyone can think we are headed in the right direction under Norvell.
I like our new DC, but beyond that, this program is headed toward the toilet bowl(if not already, firmly there) in every respect. Hell Norvell’s defense with Fuller was effective with personnel like Verse, Fiske, Lovett, Bethune, Deloach, Green, Dent, etc. This isn’t a Ryan Day situation, to which our “insiders” laughably compare it to. This is an abomination. Our HC has the three worst W-L seasons in three of his first 5 years. Our roster is gutted. We are stuck in a conference we are publicly (unprecedented) trying to get out of. We just hired an entirely different assistant coaching staff while trying to flip the entire roster in year 6 of Norvell. No transfers or recruits who aren’t being paid well over market value seem the slightest bit interested. We are now running a gimmick offense that nobody with pro protential would entertain at QB or WR. We are short on funding for a roster and short on effort from the players.
