Jimbo said Wake has been impressive so far this season. ... Show a lot of looks on defense, blitz from a variety of formations. Said they also have a lot of.veterans on defense in the front seven. Offensively, "throwing the heck out of the ball."
Fisher said Mario Pender is definitely out. Still in hospital. Lung hasn't filled like they had hoped. Should get out of hospital today or tomorrow. Doesn't know if he'll be back the next week.
Said he's eager to see the other backs if needed (Patrick, Vickers)
On the center position, Fisher said Corey Martinez is doing well. Not super descriptive ... Said Chad Mavety should start practicing more this week as well (at guard).
On the RBs, Fisher said they would have used Patrick and Vickers more earlier, but had a couple close games.
Fisher said Jacques Patrick is nimble but also has learned to take 4-5 yard gains instead of trying for the big play every carry. He said Dalvin had the same issue last year ... and many backs do because they hit so many big runs in high school. At this level, have to take the decent gain when can get it.
On the offensive line, Fisher said he's been pleased with the progress. Thinks they'll keep getting better.
On Everett, Jimbo said he's not "at fault" for what's gone wrong. But he definitely wants him to get better.
Jimbo said, "I'm very happy with where we're at." Not turning the ball over. Just need to make some throws and run some better routes.
On the WRs, he was asked what Campbell, Lane and Harrison have to do to get on the field. Said they have to "practice better."
On Golson and Maguire, Jimbo said Maguire had a great week of practice last week and has tried to keep competing. Said he would feel comfortable with either QB. Said it shows Maguire's character that he has kept his focus despite losing job.
On recruiting, Jimbo said the staff works on it every day. I asked him how they handle crises that come up during the season, and he said they always designate who can handle those things ... but he said that's why he has pushed for an early signing period in August.
That's about it. Was a pretty uneventful press conference because we spoke with Jimbo a few times last week. But we'll have video up shortly.
