When LSU beats Syracuse 34-24, they gutted out a road win and won when they didn't play their best and rise in the polls.
When Ohio State beats Northern Illinois 20-13, yet they should stay number 1 until they lose a game.
However, when FSU beats Boston College 14-0, we struggled and sputtered offensively against an opponent we should demolish and then we get dropped in the polls.
We aren't the only team that wins by less of a margin than you might expect on paper. All you have to do is look at all of the teams in the Top 10. I'll list you some games that will have you scratching your head.
#5 Ole Miss 27, Vandy 16
#3 TCU 55, Texas Tech 52
#1 Ohio State 20, Northern Illinois 13
#2 Michigan State 35, Air Force 21
#2 Michigan State 37, Western Michigan 24
#6 Georgia 31, Vandy 14
#7 Notre Dame 34, Virginia 27
#8 LSU 34, Syracuse 27
Those are all teams that either started ahead of us and stayed ahead of us or that jumped us.
And I would argue that Boston College is a much better team than any of the inferior teams that those Top 8 teams listed above struggled with. Boston College beat Northern Illinois by almost the same margin that Ohio State did.
The thing I don't like is the double standard. I am a firm believer that if you win you don't drop. Other people are more of the opinion that how you look when winning vs the level of competition you are facing is the key factor in moving teams around. Fine. They can do it that way but apply that to all the teams. See, when we win by a lesser margin that these pollsters expect they drop us. When the teams I mentioned above do it they stay where they are at. It's a total double standard.
