Two words. Nuclear energy. Qed. Until that’s the push from the climate scientists and left, I do not care as it is clear without that push that there is no interest in solving the actual problem.

They scared…

Isn't that the idea of the article? Get a bunch of folks that agree with a certain agenda to give their opinion? I noticed a lack of any counterpoints in the article. It must be settled science. Also, why is there no suggestions from any of the 380 smart people in the article? How do we fix the problem? What is this "immediate action" you're clamoring for? What does Greta suggest? Switch to Nuclear power? Wind turbines? All electric cars? Ban gas stoves?

Exactly. A lot of these nut jobs suggest socialism. Energy equity. Massive taxes and limited access to fuel and materials. They want everyone to live like shit. Otherwise, they’d be pushing nuclear.

A nuclear grid would make electric cars for example an awesome solution. But no. Let’s just tax everyone and give all the money to the wef people so they can fly around on their private jets and hang out on their yachts with no crowds.

Everyone but them of course.

Remember the Newsweek and Time magazine covers from 1977-1980 (when they had a readership) with the pictures of blizzards hitting the Northeast and Great Lakes----all entitled "the SECOND coming of a NEW Ice Age"----that was also supposedly based upon REAL scientific research!

I wonder if they used the term "hopeless and broken"?

Yes. Though, I don’t find that a compelling refutation of man made climate change being a problem. I’m not a climate scientist. But, 1) scientists are often wrong. 2) man contributing to environmental calamity is not a novel concept. It is not far fetched. That scientists have been wrong before isn't a reason to dismiss inconvenient scientific opinions or arguments. Climate science has been politicized, unfortunately. To the point that people not in lock step with catastrophic man made climate change are likely unable to be taken seriously, sustain a career or get a career off of the ground. Al Gore jumping in the arena was a mistake if the goal was not to politicize this issue.

Because of the political overlap with socialism/far left causes, I think it’s fair to dismiss climate alarmists who do not forward effective solutions to dealing with climate change. And no, suicide your economy isn’t an effective solution because China and India won’t do that. But also, it’s against human nature. We need real technology based solutions. Nuclear development has been frozen for decades in the wake of 3 mile island and Chernobyl. This is a mistake.

Let's not forget that 3-mile island and Chernobyl were still preventable accidents, even Fukushima while due to a natural event was preventable with the proper controls. If a contractor paints your house the wrong color, you don't sue the paint company. Both incidents were used as an attempt to close off nuclear power instead of utilizing it properly.

NIMBY at it's finest.

That and the DOE had a working nuclear power plant that was one that wouldn't melt down

I disagree. This board’s become a cool place. Im really diggin it here. Gotta say, I’ve got a new found appreciation for all y’all boys….

Where are we exactly? Everyone can express their views no matter how wrong they are. Whats wrong with that?
Very good question: "where are we with this board?" Hope we can get something more substantial than a few cryptic responses....
I feel like the board is headed in the right direction... and I'm very happy that Fredsince61 decided not to leave. I like to think that I had something to do with him sticking around.

I have noticed a drastic difference in moderation lately. That’s good. But, there are so few people here it’s going to hard to resurrect the board.

The number of posters here should give some indication of the board’s future. You are smart enough to predict where this path leads. It is a one way ticket..
Ah, well.

I personally blame noletaire. Dude is beeazlebub. (Sp?)

But When the other site opened, a lot of posters left. That’s the primary reason for the low traffic. There’s low traffic even on the Osceola sports board. There’s at least 4 or 5 times the traffic on war chant. Honestly I was surprised by the mass exodus to war chant. I thought it’d be about a 50-50 split between the two sites. Not sure why. When I he see rd the Osceola was coming that was the reason I didn’t cancel my membership

Well… I’m a Warchant origin poster and didn’t move when the rivals switch happened. The low traffic started when the “locker room” went from free to paid. Also, the banning of politics basically killed it. Tough moderation issue as the board got more and more politically split, those topics dominated and were off putting, sparking lots of complaints. It was easier to shut it down.

I also think that online discourse has gotten more hostile over the years. Probably a reflection of a greater disparity nationally in political views and central actions relative to that (eg, perceived asymmetric law enforcement for politically motivated misbehavior). The shift in tone reflects the national vibe and a collective manifestation of, essentially, splitting.

You can see this on the Iowa board, for example, which has more traffic and many ex warchant posters. The tone is markedly hostile. There’s just more of it. Logical fallacies are also a dominant problem (not just at the Iowa board). And, you’ve got a lot of people arguing at strawmen. They can’t accurately represent the argument that they’re arguing against. Hostility + poor critical reasoning skills = contempt. Though, I suppose there’s an equifinality to contempt.

For example, one of our posters started this thread. https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/why-is-america-so-divided.443774/

Look at the responses. That’s much worse than anything going on tone wise here.

No kidding. BTW I visited the AF Armament Museum by Eglin this past week and thought of you! What a great museum by the way.
I was there last year. Lots of impressive airplanes there. Or, shells of them anyway.
