I don’t live there, but we have an office there and I do business in Austin. Nice town. Fairly “progressive,” and more hipster and liberal than most Texas cities (if that matters to you). Great restaurants, bars and music if that is of interest. Decent airport, and excellent medical facilities nearby. Some culture comes to town because of UT. I could live there.

Yes, I've been here for over 20 years. Great town. Scalp 'em!

Check out the far north side. Georgetown, Round Rock or west like Oak Hill or farther west.
Also areas around Lake LBJ. Lago Vista, Lakeway.

Austin was fun to visit and has great restaurants, good schools, medical etc. getting pricey with housing because of all the Cali people moving there.
It's in the Hill Country and its beautiful.

Its been many years since I visited Austin but everything I know tells me its one of the premiere places to live in the nation. There is a map in the link below where you can parse through census data by tract (for geeks like me).

Housing is going bananas. The house we built (contracted last April) now sells for almost $250K more.
