As someone who has attended 4 NC games for FSU since 1993, the most recent 5 or 6 years has been like watching a different school. FSU football has just sucked. And will probably continue to suck for the foreseeable future. However, if the program has to suck here are the reasons to do it now and not 10 years from now.
1. NIL - It's the wild west and FSU can't compete with other programs payouts. Other schools have double the alumni wealth (UF), or are literally the only thing to spend money on the entire state (Bama). Others are located in larger metro areas where local advertising will generate more money (The U, UGA, Pitt, Etc..). For the next few years the NIL experiment is going to have a lot of ups and downs. A lot of schools (fan bases) are going to overpay and lose a lot of money. Let them trailblaze on that one. At some point rules will be established. It might turn out a player doesn't even need to attend the school. The football team may just be licensing the NIL of the school itself and be a stand alone entity going forward. I figure 6 years till this is worked out.

2 GOR- FSU signed over their grant of media rights through 2034 with the ACC and ESPN. ESPN has absolutely no reason to compete against themselves and pay the ACC more money. FSU is not going to be a stable national contender until they get the same or much closer media money to what the SEC or Big 10 get. The changing landscape with NIL may open the window where ESPN has to renegotiate or cancel the ACC contract. Pipe dream, yes. If the SEC was willing to invite FSU, the money might be so much more that FSU would be willing to lose a few years of media money knowing they would double it in 4 years or so. That puts that move at 2029.

To conclude, right now is not the best time to go balls out on the money spending, buying player, buying a coach because it won't be enough to make a dent in anything. Accept we have Al Golden as coach, pay off the already fired coaches, build the FOF, don't reduce stadium capacity for club seats, pay some players that want to play here and attend school. Once the GOR is returned and NIL rules are established, it's the FSU fighting but comfy SPANKS at St. Joe Paper Stadium.
