And it’s official. FSU will face Jacksonville State But on Oct. 3.

——-

Just wanted to pass along a couple of things we've been hearing ...

The first item is about the schedule. As you know, FSU is still trying to fill that 11th game on the schedule for Sept. 19 -- between the Georgia Tech and Miami games.

We've heard mention of a few different possible schools, but one that has come up a few times is Jacksonville State. That game would make sense for a number of reasons:

* It's only about 5 hours away, so the Gamecocks could bus down.
* The two teams are already scheduled to play next year, so the two administrations are very familiar with each other.
* Jacksonville State returned to practice today and is planning to play a limited non-conference schedule. I believe they still have two dates available.
* We believe FSU would like another FCS opponent to replace Samford.

While some fans have suggested playing the likes of BYU or USF, it doesn't sound like that would be the top choice. For starters, a lot of FBS programs would either want a huge payday or a return trip to their stadium. So that's something to consider. And second, FSU would love to see what some younger players could do in that spot before beginning a very tough stretch of games. If you play a competitive opponent in Week 2, all it would take is one or two bad plays, and you could find yourself in a four-quarter game. That's not going to help with a road trip to Miami on tap.

Having said all that, this has been a very fluid situation as smaller schools are wrestling with the decision about whether to play in the fall or try in the winter or spring. Several schools have either opted in or out of the fall in recent days, and FSU has considered several options.

I think we'll hear an announcement by the end of this week, and my guess is Jacksonville State. But things could definitely change.

On another topic, if you were on Twitter tonight, you likely saw posts from several FSU players expressing how happy they are to be a Seminole and a part of this program.

We know Norvell and the coaches took the players on a team-building outdoor event this afternoon and evening. Sounds like it must have been a very positive event. Not sure if they did anything special afterward.

Here are a few of the comments we saw on Twitter. We'll ask Coach Norvell and players about it tomorrow morning for more details. But definitely sounds like things are going well at the midway point through camp.
