Intense video. 24 minutes long if you want to skip around at 8:15 minutes 15 seconds he explains the heads up display. Around 12 minutes 30 seconds the missiles start. Great commentary.

Interesting to watch this former fighter pilot's eye scan when viewing the HUD. His eyes are bouncing around several times a second.

Finally got around to watching this. Pretty intense. An F4 would have been dead.
As far as bouncing around the HUD, once you've flow with it (he has) then it's second nature to all that's being depicted. Just flying instruments is kinda the same way. Your eyes don't just dwell on any one thing, they are always bouncing around.

Wow...intense to say the least.
He says they lost 2 F16's...did they say whether or not the pilots of those survived?

All without Chaff and Flare. Lucky for him the Threat warning system was working so he could get some heads up of the incoming SAM.

RWR gear was helpful but far from perfect during Desert Storm. We were inbound to Basra in tac division formation and I was dash 4. Got an SA-2 “lollipop” on the HUD and looked at 3 o’clock in time to see a damn telephone pole split between me and dash 3. F’ing SA-7s were the real threat after the oil wells were torched and bad weather combined to create a deck at about 8 thousand feet that made LALR profiles necessary back then. Looked like hell on earth underneath it. Lost a guy in our squadron to an SA-7. AV-8Bs were a prime target for IR missiles - single engine with hot nozzles close to the center of aircraft that had no armor to keep it light enough to hover. Good times.
