Here's the first five favorites to come to mind:
  1. FSU's 1993 National Championship season and of course Matt Frier's catch and long run for a TD to set the stage for that win.
  2. Marvin Jones levitation hit that knocked the sweat off a Hurricane.
  3. Diminutive running back Dexter Carter picked the penalty flag off the ground and put it on linebacker Bernard Clark's helmet after the fierce linebacker was charged with a late hit in
  4. 4th and 14
  5. The Hard Rock silence last year

Why are losses indelible?
Each of these delayed FSU first national championship until the 1993 championship mentioned above.
1. 1980: A pass interference call on a Hail Mary pass into the endzone right before the half gave Miami a first and goal that they converted into their only touchdown in a 10-9 UM win after Miami defensive linemn Jim Burt batted down a two-point conversion at the end of the game. The NCAA changed that rule some years later. Now its a 15-yard penalty.
2. 1987: FSU's two-point conversion fail kept the Seminoles from playing for the national championship. Instead Miami played for it and won it. Some believe if FSU had not gone for two and taken the tie, FSU would have played for the championship. Tough to say. On that play, FSU ran a play-action pass to TE Pat Carter. I have learned from Miami defenders that the play action pass might have been more convincing if FSU had it's bigger back, Sammie Smith, in on the play. Instead Dexter Carter was in the game and that was a pass tell for the 'Canes.
3. 1991: FSU was undefeated and ranked No. 1. Quarterback Casey Weldon was a front runner to win the Heisman. The Seminoles played that game with a wounded Weldon, lacking their starting left tackle and with a wounded center Robbie Baker. That loss derailed what could have been the Seminoles first national championship season.
4. Some will understandably mention wide rights but I wrote a column after the first one entitled 22-Reasons-Y where I listed 21 previous plays where FSU could have made a play that would have won the game. The kick was just one of 22 missed opportunities.
Let's hear yours.
