The Florida State Beach Volleyball team, which advanced to the national semifinals in 2023, opens its’ five-match fall season as it travels to play at the AVCA Pairs National Qualifier. The event is one of six national qualifying sites for teams to earn bids to the AVCA Fall Pairs National Championship in Huntsville, Ala., in November.

Florida State enters the event having earned a bid to the AVCA Pairs National Championship by virtue of finishing in the top four of the 2023 NCAA Championship.

“We have focused on being disciplined, working hard, and we have added some new fun things to the offense,” said Head Coach Brooke Niles. “I am excited to put these things into practice against other teams. I know our players cannot wait to play.”

The Seminoles will compete against LSU (who has also earned its bid to the Fall Pairs National Championship), Georgia State, Southeastern Louisiana, UAB, Spring Hill College and Mercer, and the University of New Orleans. The tournament format consists of pool play on Friday and bracket play on Saturday. The event starts on both days at 9 a.m. with each team guaranteed to play four matches per pair.

A total of 12 pairs (two each) from each of the six teams will compete in Bid play with 16 players from Florida State’s roster playing in the Open Division. Florida State’s two pairs in the Bid Division are Alli Hansen and Raelyn White along with Madelyne Anderson and Skyler Germann.

“We are excited to compete alongside everyone, cheer loud for my teammates, represent the Seminoles, and spend good quality bonding time with our teammates.” said Anderson. “Heading into the fall, the coaches have really helped us with so many different parts of our games. We have really worked hard on fine-tuning our skills and adding new plays which have challenged our abilities. I am excited to apply the work this weekend.”

Anderson is a three-time All-American and enters her final season in Tallahassee tied for eighth in school history with 104 career wins. She is one of 11 players in school history who has won more than 100 matches.

Anderson will compete with Germann, who joined the Seminoles this season after playing her first two seasons at Long Beach State. She earned All-Big West First Team honors as both a freshman and a sophomore. Germann is one of nine players in school history to earn All-Big West honors multiple times during her career.

Also competing in the Bid Division for Florida State are Hansen and White.

Hansen is a transfer student-athlete from Grand Canyon University, where she earned All-American Second-Team honors as both a sophomore and a junior. She led the Lopes to a No. 7 national ranking and into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in GCU history in 2023.

White, a graduate student who earned her bachelor’s degree in Pure Mathematics from Florida State in 2023, has been a member of two Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championship teams as a Seminole. White has also helped lead Florida State to three NCAA Tournaments.

“We have worked on expanding our offense and being more creative with our game this fall,” said White. “We are all very excited to apply this to live games and finally start competing. We have been breaking down everything and practicing with a lot of small drills, so everyone is excited to finally play against opponents other than our own teammates.”
