According to our AD Michael Alford: "when you look at the history, we went back and looked at 10 years of making a commitment to that program. We were dead last in the ACC in terms of our percentage of commitment to football. That’s not Florida State. You look back and say, “OK, why are we in the position we are in?” And look at the analytics of it. That’s one of the reasons. There were a lot of other reasons, but one of them was we hadn’t made that commitment to that sport".

For many years, there was a group on this board who said the FSU was not fully committed to football, too much status quo, said the "we do more with less" mentality was flawed, etc. and that group caught hell for it. People didn't want to admit it or didn't want to see it. Easy to walk around with blinders on and say everything is great. Apparently, Alford doesn't operate this way.

We had the same circle of leadership for a long, long time. Interesting how perspectives change when you have a new set of eyes looking at the same organization.
I'm sure that wasn't easy for Alford to say, but the only way to solve problems and improve, is to admit that a problem exists. That's a mark of effective leadership, identify the problem and address it. Damn glad that Alford is part of FSU leadership.
