There has been an ongoing debate regarding Jordan Travis and just how good he really is, or was in 2021.

One thing that gets brought up in the debate is his lack of weapons, specifically the WR corps.

If you are wondering how important WRs are to an offense keep in mind that Alabama scored 41 vs. UGA with it's two elite WRs in the SEC Championship game, but just 18 a month later without them.

With that in mind I did a deeper dive into some of the advanced analytics on PFF on FSU's WRs and compared them to fellow ACC member Miami to give the numbers some context.

Total yards after catch (YAC) by wide receivers in 2021:
- Florida State 446
- Miami 1,261
* Miami receivers added another 815 yards to the offense with what they did after catching the football. Some point to Travis' lack of 300-yard games as a criticism but that is largely a function of the WRs failing to add much to the passing numbers.

YAC per catch by WRs:
- Florida State 3.88
- Miami 5.55
* So, Miami's offense gained an average of 1.7 more yards every time a WR caught a pass.

Total missed tackles forced (the number of times a wide receiver forced defender to miss a tackle):
- Florida State 7
- Miami 32
- Alabama 40
* Not sure but it wouldn't surprise me if seven forced missed tackles is the lowest number among all P5 teams.

Receiving grade (counts WRs, TEs and RBs)
- FSU 67.2 (No. 92)
- Miami 73.7 (No. 55)

Obviously, this glaring weakness was addressed by FSU picking up four transfer wide receivers for 2022.
