Live updates: FSU vs. Tennessee in WCWS (Monday)

Mudge loops a one-out double just inside the foul line in right field.

Runner in scoring position for Kerr.

FSU really started seeing Gottshall well and so Tennessee is making a pitching change. In comes freshman Karlyn Pickens, who is a fireballer with some control issues.

Mudge steals third on the first pitch of the next at-bat. Throw down hit her but didn't bounce far enough away for her to come home.

Kerr chases outside the zone and strikes out. Two down and it'll be up to Kalei Harding to bring Mudge in.

Harding bounces one to third and it is bobbled momentarily but secured in time for her to be thrown out at first.

Mudge is stranded at third but another home run gives FSU a 2-1 lead in the middle of the third inning.

Tennessee ace Ashley Rogers, who threw over 130 pitches last night, just ran down to the bullpen. If she has to throw in Game 1, that's very good for FSU.

Freshman pitcher Makenna Reid taking over in the circle for FSU in the third inning. She's getting thrown right into the deep end going against the very talented top of the Tennessee lineup.

Leonard threw two innings and allowed one run on one hit, walking two.

Reid starts off with a three-pitch strikeout of Kiki Milloy.

It looked like six pitches, two strikeouts for Makenna Reid, but they called an illegal pitch, which goes down as a ball.

Lonni talking to her now in the circle.

Reid gets a groundout to second on the very next pitch. She responds to her second illegal pitch in as many games well. Two down.

Lonni Alameda is not one to get into it with an umpire but she did there after Makenna Reid was called for a second illegal pitch. Pitch was a ball anyways so no harm, no foul, I guess, but that's something Reid has to figure out.

Reid walks the next batter on four pitches to give UT a two-out baserunner on first.

Tennessee singles to center just past Flaherty and now Tennessee has runners on the corners with two outs. Really weird situation with these illegal pitches. Almost like Reid has the yips with how she is throwing?

It's big for Alameda to try and allow Makenna to get through the inning. Even though it's a tough learning lesson on the big stage

Reid gets out of the inning and strands the runners with a clutch strikeout. Some real emotion from FSU coming off the field after one of the more bizarre innings you will ever see.

Lonni: "We've had one illegal pitch all year so if it's a tactic right now, that's awesome."

Praises Makenna for escaping the jam despite the adversity while also bringing up "the consistency factor" when it comes to illegal pitches.

Edenfield works a full count and then laces a lineout to center. That ball was crushed but too low a launch angle.

Instead of 0-2, a fourth illegal pitch makes it a 1-1 count. I have never seen anything like this.
Lonni said it was interesting how they’ve had exactly ONE illegal pitch call the entire season but five tonight.
Crazy.
She told the umpire it was 💩💩💩and got a warning. But she’s right.

Good questions by Holly. Loved how Alameda handled that interview
You know she had other questions entirely but pivoted and made it entirely about that after how that last inning played out. She's so good as a sideline reporter.

Leonard rips a grounder to short but it is fielded cleanly and she is retired. FSU goes 1-2-3 in the fourth.

2-1 Noles, M4

Makenna Reid back out for another inning and starts it with a popout in foul territory by third base.

Mack Leonard just ran down to the bullpen. She is eliglble to return to the mound.

One opinion. Caylan has pitched at Tennessee and FSU. And the lack of consistency in the calls (regular season vs. postseason) is a fair point of contention

Kerr runs in to grab a pop fly to shallow center. Nice communication between her and Muffley, who was retreating. Two down.

Broadcast crew is rightfully pointing out that while it may be an illegal pitch by the letter of the law, it's weird to start calling it so strictly at this stage in the season.

Mudge easily snares a liner to left to retire Tennessee in the fourth.

2-1 FSU as we head to the fifth inning.

Wacaser chops the first pitch of the FSU fifth to third and is retired.

Infield single for Bethaney Keen on a chopper up the middle which the shortstop has to dive to stop.

Belviy will pinch-run on first for FSU with one out and Muffley batting.

Muffley is plunked, putting two runners on with one out for the top of the FSU order.

Would be quite a time for FSU to get some insurance.
