The press conference to introduce Michael Alford as FSU's next athletics director is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET. We'll post a few updates here. Look for a full wrap-up and video of the PC coming up a little later. Link to watch live
Introductory comments by FSU president Richard McCullough
Opening statement by new AD Michael Alford
Q&A with both gentlemen
Norvell on the hire
President McCullough starts off the event, explaining how excited he is to have Alford as the AD. Points out that he has history of hiring coaches and has done a great job with Seminole Boosters
Says he’s the “perfect pick” for this job.
Alford is speaking now and says this has been a “lifelong dream.”
Alford says he has theee main goals as AD. One is to align the athletics department with the university mission, and also align with Seminole Boosters.
The second main goal is doing everything they can to support and develop student-athletes. The mission is to make sure all student-athletes have chance to leave with a degree in one hand and a championship ring on the other.
The third goal is embracing excellence. Competing in everything they can do. Says they will hold everyone to that standard of excellence.
It sounded like Alford was getting a little emotional at different times.
