Lots of news and notes

You can definitely tell it's the Monday after a Miami game with so many players out or limited with minor injuries. Also, it was the first day of a bye week, so they were taking things a little slower than normal ... although they were in shells for contact. So it was more like a practice than a walk-through. A lot of the coaches were working on fundamentals with it being the bye week.

'Nole Drill
Some of the individual winners in the 'Nole Drill: Dennis Briggs and Hamsah Nasirildeen had good reps early. Demarcus Christmas handled Baveon Johnson easily.

Marvin Wilson destroyed Christian Armstrong and swallowed up the RB. Afterward, Odell Haggins was very excited, yelling "Get you some, get you some." Then Robert Cooper lined up against Armstrong and Odell asked Armstrong if he wanted some more. Armstrong held his own with Cooper. ... Zaquandre White and Alex Marshall got into a little skirmish after their battle. The coaches then made them go again, and White beat Marshall pretty easily and let him hear about it.

Although the pace was a little slower Monday, the coaches seemed be trying to keep the energy up. Willie was going around to several groups on offense ... OL, WRs, QBs ... to work on details.

QBs
Looked like they were giving Deondre Francois the day off from physical activity. He mostly watched the drills and talked with the players and coaches. His knee also looked a little more taped than usual under the brace. Guessing they're just giving him some time to rest after the hits he took Saturday, but we'll monitor. Blackman seemed to be taking the first- and second reps, followed by walk-ons Nolan McDonald and Beau Fillichio. ... By the way, I thought Blackman did look good throwing the ball. Looked sharp to me.

OL
The first OL was: Kelly at LT, Minshew at LG, Eberle at C, Arnold at RG and Scott at RT.
The second OL (from left) was: Jauan Williams, Arthur Williams, Baveon Johnson , Christian Armstrong and Chaz Neal. ... Didn't see OL Abdul Bello out there. He might have gotten banged up Saturday.

DB
Looked like Stanford Samuels and Asante Samuel were both rehabbing today.

LB
Didn't see DeCalon Brooks with the LBs. He might be rehabbing. Dontavious Jackson was in a blue non-contact jersey.

Most position groups worked on fundamentals. Also saw Xavier Peters and Warren Thompson pushing a sled with Coach O. Looked more like disciplinary than rehab, but don't know for sure.

---------------

No timetable for Landon Dickerson’s return.

Asked if Deondre Francois is definitely still solid as the starting QB, Willie Taggart laughs: “Is that a question? You’ve got to be kidding me.”

FSU DT Fred Jones, who played a great game Saturday, came out to practice walking with a crutch and a brace on his knee.

FSU coach Willie Taggart says they have sent tape of the controversial double-pass penalty into the ACC to get some “clarity.”

With this being a bye week, FSU is practicing this morning. We will interview Coach Taggart around 8:45 a.m. and then have a viewing period at practice.
