I am not predicting the demise of the ACC until we hear from Notre Dame. They hold the key not only to the ACC, but to all of college football. Sorry all you dome haters, yes the Arrogant Ones are still that important. You can thank them for playing the 2020 season.

So what will happen if the ACC does in effect…disband…all because of money? I don’t expect a lot of favorable press for the remaining Big Two. The B10 has yet to announce how it intends to handle cross country travel for 20 sports in four different time zones and its impact on the health, safety and welfare of the student athlete. Maryland is now boasting about their decision to leave the ACC for the Big Ten in 2012, when we all know they were forced into that move of desperation because of their own management incompetence. And frankly, most Terp fans miss the ACC. But hey…who cares when money drives all the decisions. Hope the Terms enjoy their cross country trips to play lacrosse and basketball.

FSU’s decision to join the ACC in 1991 was flawed when the school ”leaders” used factors that did not include the culture of college football - at least how FSU fans felt about that culture. FSU “leaders” did not consider how the FSU fans really thought. When Bobby said he would play “anybody” ”anywhere”, he was actually talking about national powers that FSU wanted to beat. The FSU selection committee took “anybody” to mean….well, really “anybody”..even teams that FSU never played and never tried to schedule. To many FSU fans, some of those AC teams were really “nobodies”. A bit rough to say, but fans are not known to be fair minded.

Nevertheless, even if the ACC disappears and the national press have their initial tears of regret over the end of “amateur” athletics and great rivalries in basketball (and yes…the ACC had great basketball rivalries that even no one at ESPN really wants to see go away), FSU will be ok. Money may be driving the decision of what to do next, but the old guard FSU fans know that this is a correction of an error. We can’t restate the past but we can accept it for what it was and move on. We will be ok. (Clemson will be money grubbing…they were never interested in joining the SEC).

Then I woke up at 3 AM and has this throught that ND, Penn State, Maryland and WVU decided to join the ACC. The ACC would be the only power conference where all the members reside in the same time zone. The ACC has decided in favor of the health, safety and welfare of its student athletes.

Damn those Irish. You just never know what they are going to do.
