You may be aware that FSU wide receivers coach Ron Dugans' contract is set to expire later this month. To the best of our knowledge, that contract has not been renewed. If the contract was going to be extended we probably would have heard something by now. It's not impossible that he will be retained, but the writing on the wall suggests otherwise.

Here's what we are hearing on the wide receiver coach position.

* The buzz is that current running back coach David Johnson will be moved to wide receivers coach should FSU move on from Dugans. Johnson coached wide receivers at both Tennessee and Memphis.

* There was a report from On3 that both FSU and Florida were targeting Penn State running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider for the same position. Seider is reportedly staying at Penn State, getting a better deal at Happy Valley. It's uncertain whether FSU actually offered Seider the position or were just making inquiries. The important part is we've heard enough to know there is likely an opening at Florida State.

* The most recent name we've heard that has surfaced for the position is Georgia running backs coach Dell McGee. McGee has strong ties to the state of Georgia coaching in high school, at Georgia Southern and UGA. So, he would clearly be an asset in recruiting the Peach State. Why would he leave Athens? We have been told he might be offered to come in as FSU's co-offensive coordinator. That would of course mean more responsibility and more pay. I've heard rumblings that new AD Michael Alford has significantly bumped up Mike Norvell's budget to beef up the staff.

The connection is that McGee worked with Lanning at Georgia. So, there's a good chance Novell reached out to his old assistant coach to get the skinny on McGee.

The big coaches' convention is going on this week so there's a good chance we'll get some news later this week. Stay tuned....
