This is something that somehow keeps getting overlooked around here. Only Willie's second recruiting class at the end of his first season could be considered a "normal" recruiting class. The others have been transition classes (2) and a COVID class (1) where the new staff in place had never been able to get on the road or to host events to actually meet recruits in person. (and yes other schools had to deal with COVID but only brand new staffs faced the same handicap)
If you haven't looked into it, you should look up what transition classes in the Early Signing Period era are like. Oh yeah, we had the wonderful fortune of starting this in that same period.
In a nutshell, that explains our current predicament. And if you think about any of our current players that we will sorely miss next year, guess what? They are all people that Norvell brought in via the portal. I am not aware of any significant leaving player that is someone he inherited. This is a complete rebuild from the ground up that has been supplemented with several plug and play wins from the portal. It's going to take a while and if you can't have patience then you may as well tune out for another year or two because it's a long road.
