Just when you thought golf in wildly different time zones for viewing in the United States was over, it's not. Men's golf in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will begin on July 28 and last through August 1 at Kasumigaseki Country Club just outside of Tokyo, and several of the biggest stars in the world will compete.
The group of 60 golfers in this year's golf competition -- just the second since 1904 -- is highlighted by the No. 1 player in the world, Jon Rahm, who will be representing Spain alongside Adri Arnaus, who is ranked No. 166. Other top 25 players joining Rahm in Tokyo are Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Hideki Matsuyama and Paul Casey.

Olympic golf format

The format for this year's golf competition is the same as it was at the 2016 Rio Olympics when Justin Rose went on to win the gold medal. The 60 competitors will play four days of stroke play. This is a big switch from how golf looked in the Olympics 120 years ago. In the last competition before golf took a century-long hiatus, golfers had to play 36 holes of qualifying stroke play and five matches that were 36 holes each. The 1904 champion, George Lyon of Canada, played 197 holes over the course of six days.
This year won't be as much of a grind, but it will be a ton of fun to see the best in the world in a situation we don't normally see them in. The closest professional golf gets to playing for country throughout the normal rhythms of a season is the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup. Throw in some huge names who were absent in Rio, and this should be a fantastic event as a great summer of golf starts to come to a close.

Here's how you can watch and follow along for all four days. Note that though the event starts on Thursday in Japan, that's actually Wednesday evening in the United States. It will conclude extremely early on Sunday morning.
All times Eastern

Ok, we are headed to the Olympics--

This week will be just for fun as these finishes do not count towards the FedEx Cup

Same rules apply, pick 4 golfers, the only change this week we will do overall score under par for the 4 rounds.

After another strong week @Bobcat07 extends the overall season lead

Congrats to NIA . What happened to Lebioda ? Said ‘personal reasons’ which could be anything.
The Olympics picks:

McIlroy

* My daughter said she saw a tweet that Hank's mom passed away. I hope that's not the case.

Jeez. Someone finally found a way to force me to watch some of the Olympics.

Boo this person!
Ed - that's the spirit! Every four years it is a t.v.-fest at our house. My wife can't make it through without watching the Men's Indoor Volleyball squad. Me - I get to watch the cycling and judo and boxing and kayaking and archery and rowing and on and on and on (even table tennis)...stuff that is NEVER shown in Primetime at night on EN-Bee-See. Yes, we do the swimming and T&F and even the gymnastics, but the wide-array (or as the great Jim McKay would say...'the wide variety of sports') makes it good sports viewing for us. Anyway, sorry to be a cheese-ball, but every four years it is something different...now if I could just understand the rules of women's team handball...

You watch: since this doesn't count, my 4 picks will finish 1, 2, 3, and 4.

VIktor Hovland
Hideki Matsuyama
Collin Morikawa
Xander Schauffele
And I bet it will be due to the Rings - somehow, someway you've chosen...wisely. Not by the o-board, nor the musings of a twig or the ramblings of an old gypsie matriarch. But the rings...;)

His Dad was very ill-This was posted on twitter by Hank, good he withdrew, need to be there for family and he would have been a wreck trying to play

So is this just a regular stroke play individual event? If so, it's kinda lame. It would be cool if they did some type of team event for the Olympics. Otherwise it just seems like a regular tourney. Just one man's opinion.

Agreed, I would love to see 2 man teams like the Ryder Cup but in a bracket, I think that would be awesome

I see there is a small gallery on the first hole. I thought no fans were allowed at these Olympics. Anyone know the particulars?

I like the course they are playing , the layout seems solid and it rewards good iron play.
You can hear everything, I like having crowds back at sporting events but of all the sports I watch on TV, golf without the crowds is really good.

Tee Markers are very well done

I tried to convince Mrs BFT that as part of the Olympics, a rule was put in place that the golfers had to shoot their ball through one of those rings (they have them out on the course as well only a lot larger) on their approach shot to the green. Much like the rapid water contests and the gates they have. For some reason, she wasn't buying that.

I always do alphabetical. Its a ritual.
Interesting...speaking of rituals, I ought to try that method (alphabetical) based upon how I have fared this season. Maybe something like: the ritual of a certain shot or sip after the selection - first letter to correspond as best it can, to that golfer's name. Some tourneys may require mercy sips & shots depending on who makes or misses (more likely) the cut that week

A thru B - shot of Bourbon or sip of beer. Choice of desperation - Apple Cider

C thru M - sip of cognac or Mike's hard lemonade

N thru S - Stolichnaya (vodka of choice, and besides, I am inspired by the ROC women's gymnastics right now)

T thru Z - Tequila, always the tequila

I know that I could find other beverages to fit within each category, but why waste time on a searching expedition. Besides, its golf and there's no beer cart running through my living room...

That was a heck of a final day. Rory Sabbatini with Olympic record 61 to secure silver and a 7 player playoff for bronze with CT Pan getting the medal on 4th playoff hole.
Xander with a strong 4 days gets the gold.

I hope they consider a team event in the future, as a 60 man field seemed liked a ho-hum tour stop.

In the PGSF Olympic competition we had a 3 way tie for the gold. All picked the winner to finish at a combined 60 below par,

Congrats to our winners @Bill From Tampa @seminoleed @VaporNole
