what are the most logical bets to make?? Not really a craps player but the cards in Vegas suck this week. Time to mix it up a little...

Bet max odds behind pass line bet after point is established.

This. Craps is the only game playing against the house where you can get even odds on the majority of your bet.

The way I like to do it is to have 2 or 3 numbers going at a time. Bet table minimum (or higher if you want to bet a lot) on the pass. When the point is established, put max odds (usually 3x, 4x, or 5x your original bet) behind pass line. Then bet minimum on the come bet, which is essentially establishing another point bet on the next roll. If that point gets established, put max odds on that bet too. Repeat a third time. After that chill and wait for one of your 3 points to hit (or 7 out). Any time you hit a point after that, put a new come bet, then max odds behind that point. If you start hitting a bunch of points, you can make a lot quickly. Of course, if the 7 comes, you lose 3 bets plus max odds on each.

Agree with the above. Pass line with odds behind the pass once the point is established (4,5,6,8,9, and 10 are the Place #s). Mathematically then play the 6 or the 8 because they should hit the second most after the seven if you want to venture out and have some other numbers going. Then 5 or 9. You get the point.

Hehehe. Come on. That's gold.

If you were to watch me play and then write a post about it, it would read exactly like this. Only slight modification is that, if I'm on a hot streak, I might eventually add one or two more come bets, such that I have 4 or 5 numbers covered (or if on a cold streak, I might only have one come bet on the table in addition to the pass line.

Oh, and I also concur with RRR. Douchebags bet the Don't. The fun of the craps table comes from the social aspect - you win, we all win; you lose, we all lose. Don't be the Don't.

Yes, why would you want better odds....

I assume the who don't bet the don't bs was started by the casinos/mob to push people into the worst bets statistically.

As for me, I like the idea of craps. It looks and feels the most like old school gambling to me and has lots of high energy versus card tables. But I'm not very lucky at it for some reason so I usually avoid the tables. If a casino has an electronic craps table I'll play that periodically to try out new betting techniques I'd read about but I usually don't stick around long.

You're calling me out because I'd prefer to go along with the crowd instead of making the bet that has a fraction of 1% better odds, yet you avoid betting on the game in which the house has the lowest edge because you're "not very lucky at it"?

Interesting.

This sums it up and is probably the philosophy of the majority of players. A hot craps table is one of if not the most fun things to experience. Of course winning is a big part of that but the excitement of a shooter on fire is unlike anything else in a casino.

Interesting.

Not calling you out.

And that 1% is key.

And....I am unlucky at craps, always have been.

I've been shockingly lucky at the slots because I quit when I'm ahead and start doubling the size of my bets every five mins or so and walk away when I break even or make money. So out of the last 30 or so times at the casino I've only walked away with less money twice using that "technique". I've only twice made more than $800 but I usually end up spending a couple of hours and walking away a couple Hundo up.

I do decently ok blackjack as I follow a somewhat similar betting strategy although I'm closer to what the odds would expect than slots. I'm very similar with jai alai.

I'm absolutely unlucky/terrible at the three gambling options I like the best, ponies, dogs and slots. I lose my lunch money every time I try. But I keep going back because I like the idea of them more than the reality.

But the % difference isn't 1% on a pass vs don't pass bet, it's much smaller than that. House advantage on the pass is 1.41%, on the don't it is 1.36%.

$5 Yo bet when you come out shooting. Bet the pass line and back it up with a max bet and then feel out the table. If you got a hot shooter, I start a Come bet and back those up, put Placed Bets on all the numbers and usually press those. 6 and 8 the hard way if I'm feeling good, Yo bets and 4 and 10 the hard way for the stickman if I'm feeling really good.

I won $975!

Congrats! I assume your trip is up? One of the most important rules in gambling is that you haven't won it until you are done gambling. That's why being able to walk away a winner is a very valuable trait to have. Many don't realize that when losing, that rule is not the same. You have lost all you have lost, even if you are still at the table. Being able to walk away a loser before you lose more than you can handle is a very valuable trait to have too.

More importantly, he needs to remember to pay some vig to those who gave him a quick online lesson on how to play.

Very valid point. I'm still in Vegas. Hit a $15 "hit em all" features bet last night that paid 210:1. That was a nice jolt. All in all, I've managed to win more than my wife has lost. This is our last night here and I think we are up 17-1800ish. She's passed out already so if I don't do anything stupid in the next couple of hours, we will go home on top
