Obviously, the Darrell Jackson news puts a damper on any positive news that comes out of Florida State's Tuesday morning practice, the fifth of preseason camp. Still, here are a few updates from the practice itself:

  • Offense got off to a really hot start. First 11-on-11 drive was as efficient as they have been all camp with a pair of completions to Johnny Wilson, a run by Jordan Travis and a run by Trey Benson followed by a 36-yard field goal. Deuce Spann also had a jet sweep go for a LONG touchdown during this opening period.
  • Freshman DB Ja'Bril Rawls had a really nice day. Had an airborne pass breakup while rushing the passer on a third down during goal-line work and then another really nice PBU later in the day where he swiped his hand in front of Hykeem Williams to deny him the catch. Azareye'h Thomas also had an interception of Travis during the red-zone period.
  • I continue to be impressed by Caziah Holmes, who again hit a few nice runs today. At this rate, it may be getting tougher to defend keeping him out of the running back rotation. I also thought this was the best practice of fall camp for Pat Payton, who was especially impactful in 11-on-11 work near the end of practice.
  • Norvell said it will be a lighter day of practice tomorrow morning here before two more intense practices in Jacksonville Thursday and Friday followed by the first preseason scrimmage Saturday night. We'll be in Jacksonville providing coverage later this week.
Full practice report coming later this afternoon.
