We just wrapped up the first practice of Wake Forest week. Here are some quick updates:

  • Winston Wright Jr. continues to work back from his severe leg injury and was doing more today, working with the kick returners and also getting some work running routes and catching passes from quarterbacks without any defenders. He was moving pretty well and making cuts on his routes, although it looked like he may be holding back somewhat and not running his top speed. Still no updated timeline from Norvell, but here's what he said when asked after Tuesday morning's practice
We all wanted him to be, we never wanted him to miss any time. It’s one of those things that he was involved in a catastrophic car accident. And it was nothing that he could control. It was one of the things, the challenges, the emotions, the things he’s had to go through. Now it’s just the physical rehabilitation. He is getting better and better every day because he is willing himself to that. You see him out working individually, he’s getting in better shape. When you take, whatever it’s been, six months, seven months of going back to walking and that process. And continuing to build the explosiveness and the strength. There’s a lot of factors that go into it. His spirit is special. Seeing him on the sideline, encouraging teammates, being there and he does the same thing at practice. That’s what makes him special.
  • This weekend's game against Wake Forest will be probably the toughest test to date this season when it comes to a mixture of quarterback and wide receiver talent. Whether coincidence or not, Tuesday's practice was really good from the FSU secondary, who made things hard for the wide receivers with a lot of pass breakups in 1-on-1 work and some tough coverage that made it not the best day for FSU's passing game.
  • Coming off a game where he made his only field goal but missed one of six extra points, Ryan Fitzgerald had a good day of practice. He made all three of his field goals during team portions, extending out to 43 yards. Would be important if Fitzgerald takes a step closer to his 2021 form with a few games that could be quite close over the next few weeks.
