10% reduction but for Matt Baker I recommend 100%.

The death of newspapers kind of sucks. I subscribe to the TB Times online. Pretty good Rays and local news coverage. I thought they were doing pretty well honestly. They do some fantastic journalism there.

Newspapers are vitally important. Local reporting is nearly dead. Indeed they lack timeliness, but they provide depth that is lacking in other news platforms. They seek out stories that shine light on politicians and government. Their job is to expose. The best ones give you the full story, the worst, one side. But either way, it is up to the reader to do their due diligence. Matt Baker writes stories for clicks on the website. I imagine that is a good thing, even if the story is less newsworthy and accurate.
My rule, watch porn, read news.

Who is this good for, the business? Because if the model is to pump out garbage like Matt Baker writes then why am I supposed to be sad about the consumer responding with "lol no thanks"?

If you are reading it, then it is a good thing. If you don’t like what is written, find the facts and if they are not accurately portrayed, make some noise. Most reporting is accurate, just not completely. But get the whole story. I am more leery of news I agree with than the stuff I don’t.

Seriously, some of you guys just suck.

The newspaper I write for declared bankruptcy two weeks ago, and a lot of decent people are going to be out of work. They have wives and husbands, mortgages and children. They pay taxes, contribute to charities, do volunteer work. Some of them write or edit stories that improve their communities and hold government officials accountable. They've certainly never done a thing to hurt you.

If you are gleeful about people you've never met losing their livelihoods because you are so thin-skinned that you can't tolerate anyone criticizing your team -- well, then you're either a child or a crummy adult. And to hell with you.

Nobody is talking about your friends. Just Matt Baker.

I can understand your anxiety. It can't be fun to be laid off in any industry. I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing you well and hoping you are able to land somewhere quickly.
We're in a very strong job market at the moment and that's one positive to be grateful for as it applies to you and your colleagues.

Or...stop paying for the product? Which appears to be what's happening here, so again, not sure why I'm supposed to see clickbait out of "legitimate" sources as a good thing. Trash like that is already available for free.

There are plenty of outlets that are succeeding by maintaining their legitimacy.

The thing going against print news is that people expect it for free now. So since the only revenue source is online ads, they have to provide clickbait.

I agree. And again, there are sources that are of such a quality that people are willing to pay for it. There are some that match that quality that not enough people are willing to pay for. I just have no idea how Matt Baker failing to reach that quality can be considered a good thing.

I am happy when any propaganda machine goes out of business. If the owners/editors where concerned about their people/families etc. they should stop with the fake news and provide a fair and factual account of what is actually going on. Most news media at this time only attack or investigate those people/opinions that they disagree with.

I stopped all my subscriptions in the late 90's because of the one-sided reporting. I truly loved opening my papers every morning and reading all the latest both local and national. I miss it very much. The Orlando Sentinel used to be one of the best in the nation.

If the news paper industry ever returns to fair and factual news coverage I will gladly renew my subscriptions again. They were a large part of Americana.

Where do you source local news then?

exactly! The mass media is a corrupt agenda driven industry and I’m happy to see its continued demise.

Sorry to hear this, it does suck for sure but newspapers have been dying a slow death for many years and maybe finding a different job when the writing is on the wall might have been a good idea?
