Ira and Corey was able to distill the reality of thousands of posts on this message board into one 15 minute segment. Not sure that was their goal, but that is what happened. Ira was returning from the ACC meetings, and basically gave us all a reality check of where things are at with the ACC with scheduling and revenue; and Corey gave a reality check as to what this means to the sport of college football. That wasn’t their stated goal, it was just a somber explanation of where things are at. You should listen…but since some will want a few cliff notes…the ACC will wait to see ESPN’s analysis of the new proposed scheduling system to see if it gives more money - AND - good time slots on Saturday. If it doesn’t, it may not happen. Corey pointed out that ESPN does not hate the ACC, but it has invested so much money into the SEC that it is just going to make a business decision and maximize its return on that investment.. And, it doesn’t seem like the ACC AD’s and coaches are acting like the revenue issue is a burning bridge…their comments are more like “Well, we need to control what we can control” The strongest statement is from Ira - the issue isn’t really the GOR - if the GOR ended today, can the ACC go into the open market and make more money? The student populations and alumni bases of both the Big Ten and SEC are much bigger than the ACC. (To be fair, most posters on this board look at the GOR as an impediment to leaving the ACC. Ira was just commenting that the current ACC annual TV revenue may actually be market value). Corey pointed out that most of the the SEC‘s football success is really only based on a few schools…but Ira noted it doesn’t matter…those programs value football more and the TV public wants to see them play during the regular season.

These are just a few cliff notes. There’s other content in that podcast. You need to listen to what they actually said, and how they said it.
