We just wrapped at the first practice of North Alabama week for FSU. Here are some updates (admittedly a bit less this week because....it's North Alabama week)

  • I thought quite a few of the quarterbacks had moments of real brilliance Tuesday morning. Jordan Travis had a nice scramble during the opening 11-on-11 period and then had an exceptional throw on the run to Deuce Spann during the middle 11-on-11 portion. Brock Glenn broke a long run thanks to a nice seam created by his offensive line and also had a few really nice 7-on-7 throws, including an over-the-shoulder dime to Kentron Poitier. Tate Rodemaker also had a pitch-perfect deep shot to Vandrevius Jacobs during 7-on-7, which hit him perfectly in stride for a big gain.
  • Speaking of Poitier, he ended the practice exceptionally strong over the final few periods. In addition to his catch on the pass from Glenn, he made a few more catches from Travis during 7-on-7 and then put an exclamation point on the day with a long touchdown catch against the scout team.
  • It's not often that a defensive player gets Travis dead to rights on a sack at practice, considering they aren't allowed to hit him and Travis normally protests that he wouldn't have been sacked. But even Travis couldn't argue against the fact that Jared Verse sacked him on the singular goal-line play FSU runs in the middle of each practice. Verse had the FSU quarterback totally dead to rights. This week's game could be one where he pads his sack numbers after all the extra attention he's received this week has stifled his numbers even if he's been exceptionally impactful.
  • After Jarrian Jones had a pick to clinch Saturday's win, he added another interception during 7-on-7 Tuesday, jumping a short passing route for what would have almost certainly been a pick-six if the play was live. DJ Lundy also had a pick during 11-on-11, making a nice snag while fairly far downfield in coverage and catching the ball while falling to the ground.
  • Sam Singleton got a bit more burn at Tuesday's practice and made a few nice runs out of the backfield. Caziah Holmes also broke a fairly big run early in the day's practice.
We'll be back after Wednesday's practice with some more practice updates.
