Gone at 72. Missed his Steeler jersey retirement, and a celebration of the Immaculate Reception, by ~96 hours. Very sad.

When I was a kid in the 70s, I absolutely loved the Steelers. I had newspaper clippings with photos of their stars taped on my bedroom walls, and Franco was one of my childhood heroes.Gone at 72. What took them 40+ years to retire his jersey? Should have happened 38 years ago. Too bad.Gone at 72. Missed his Steeler jersey retirement, and a celebration of the Immaculate Reception, by ~96 hours. Very sad.

Steelers only have two officially retired numbers. 70 and 75. No 12 or 88, 47, 59 or 58 either. Wow.Mean Joe's had his retired, but not Franco? Nor Bradshaw for that matter.
Even worse than the Sugar Bowl waiting 20+ years to recognize Bobby and Peter Warrick. What took them 40+ years to retire his jersey? Should have happened 38 years ago. Too bad.
Absolute worst I ever saw was the PFHOF not enshrining Kenny Stabler until after his passing. 😡Even worse than the Sugar Bowl waiting 20+ years to recognize Bobby and Peter Warrick.
Or Paterno getting his wins back and not Bobby.Absolute worst I ever saw was the PFHOF not enshrining Kenny Stabler until after his passing. 😡
I don’t have a dog in this fight really but even “for the time” Stablers numbers were very very pedestrian. He did win a lot of games admittedly.Absolute worst I ever saw was the PFHOF not enshrining Kenny Stabler until after his passing. 😡
Who was a better partier AND championship caliber QB? Only Joe Namath comes to mind, and I think Stabler may have been a more extreme partier. 😀I don’t have a dog in this fight really but even “for the time” Stablers numbers were very very pedestrian. He did win a lot of games admittedly.
